El Tec de Monterrey inauguró un laboratorio 6G y avanzó en criptografía post-cuántica.

El Tecnológico de Monterrey avanzó en la creación del Laboratorio 6G de Comunicaciones y Sensado Integrados, un espacio pionero en Latinoamérica dedicado a la investigación y desarrollo de tecnologías de conectividad de próxima generación en un entorno cognitivo.
Este nuevo centro formó parte de los proyectos estratégicos de la Faculty of Excellence (FoE). La iniciativa tuvo como objetivo atraer a 100 líderes académicos de talla internacional para integrarse a las seis escuelas nacionales del Tec.
Los responsables explicaron que el Laboratorio 6G buscó impulsar la innovación y transformar la enseñanza. El proyecto se planteó como referente en investigación aplicada, con impacto directo en la industria de telecomunicaciones y en la formación de capital humano especializado.
Investigación en criptografía post-cuántica
El equipo fue liderado por el Dr. César Vargas-Rosales, investigador de la Escuela de Ingeniería y Ciencias del Tec. En el proyecto colaboró el Dr. Francisco Falcone, Profesor Visitante Distinguido del FoE y experto internacional en telecomunicaciones.
Entre los desarrollos centrales se incluyó la criptografía post-cuántica (PQC), un campo que buscó blindar la información ante ataques de supercomputadoras clásicas y cuánticas. El objetivo fue evitar robos de datos, alteraciones maliciosas y suplantaciones de identidad.
El proyecto contó con la colaboración de la Universidad Estatal de Arizona (ASU), la Universidad de Texas en San Antonio (UTSA) y la Universidad Tecnológica de Dinamarca (DTU). El financiamiento inicial fue otorgado por la ASU.
De acuerdo con el Dr. Vargas-Rosales, los sistemas 6G enfrentaron dos retos principales: autenticar dispositivos en la red de manera segura y adaptar protocolos criptográficos a entornos de hardware limitado, como en el Internet de las Cosas.
Retos y expectativas globales
Los investigadores trabajaron en implementar algoritmos en plataformas de hardware 6G, definiendo métricas que evaluaron exactitud, complejidad, fidelidad de la información y consumo energético. La investigación también incluyó ensayos sobre escalabilidad y eficiencia.
Según estimaciones académicas, en un periodo de cinco a diez años se esperaba una adopción masiva de soluciones post-cuánticas. Dichos avances se consideraron clave para proteger sistemas críticos frente al desarrollo de la computación cuántica.
El interés mundial por estas tecnologías aumentó de forma significativa. En 2025, gobiernos, agencias de ciberseguridad y grandes corporaciones incorporaron medidas preventivas para anticipar vulnerabilidades derivadas de la computación cuántica.
En este contexto, el Dr. Vargas-Rosales subrayó que era indispensable adoptar estrategias post-cuánticas robustas. También señaló la importancia de formar recursos humanos especializados que lideraran la transformación digital en entornos de alta conectividad. –sn–
