Finally put up my #AAS241 swag: magnetic poetry from the GCN & HEASARC!
Finally put up my #AAS241 swag: magnetic poetry from the GCN & HEASARC!
From NASAWebb https://twitter.com/NASAWebb on Twitter: A whole new world! 41 light-years away is the small, rocky planet LHS 475 b. At 99% of Earth’s diameter, it’s almost exactly the same size as our home world. This marks the first time researchers have used Webb to confirm an exoplanet. https://t.co/hX8UGXplq2 #AAS241 https://twitter.com/NASAWebb/status/1613240430346264584/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/f589a31f2215d50ce0292dd346689ecb51e155830b772c37c9892ba6c16aa984/view

Six negative covid tests since #AAS241... maybe I was lucky enough to have dodged the bullet? (Thank you for the indoor masking policy AAS Leadership!)
Another one of our #JWST #ERS1328 papers hit the arXiv when I was busy with #AAS241 so apologies for the late post -- this one led by Jeff Rich is about the intriguing nature of the nuclear cores in #VV114, complete with #NIRSpec and #MRS SPECTRA!! You know you want to read this for your #JWSTCycle2 proposal... 😉
From Jeff: "We found an AGN where we didn’t expect to, no AGN where others had predicted one, and interesting ISM properties that require a lot more analyses."
The final daily Astro Vlog for #AAS241 is out! Thanks to everyone for watching this year, it sure was fun uploading videos again!

@AlicesAstroInfo hello! I hope you enjoyed #AAS241 as much as I did!
More exciting news from #AAS241
The air is thin!
A few highlights of #AAS241 and #ALMA were assembled together in our latest newsletter. https://alma.loadingediciones.cl/dev/news/aas/
Overheard while getting coffee after #AAS241:
"You know that astronomy conference that was in town? I read an article that came out of the conference, saying we found galaxies way further than we thought. I just love thinking about how vast space is!"
Agreed.
There was an announcement at the #AAS241 closing ceremony that, as of 5 PM, only one COVID case had been reported among the attendees. Obviously there's going to be a lot of under-reporting, but ... that's pretty good!
Astronomers using @NASAHubble have recorded a star’s final moments as it gets gobbled up by a black hole. Stellar shredding like this happens only a few times in every 100,000 years in any given galaxy with a supermassive black hole center: https://go.nasa.gov/3GLBRrA #AAS241

I want to thank the people who pushed to make #AAS241 safer for everyone to attend when the meeting didn’t make mask mandatory at first. The fact that speakers could safely unmask because the rest of the room was masked and well ventilated is a huge step forward. It gives me hope that we can indeed do better as a community. Looking forward to seeing this and daily testing being normalized for future conferences. #PPVII
Back home after a very successful #AAS241 meeting. Web site launch updates to follow over the weekend.
NEW on the Astro Vlog: Day 3 of #AAS241!
Last night at #AAS241 I went to dinner with @PhilMassey, and we ran into Rob Fesen. Who proceeded to sit us down and tell us what sounded like the world’s worst shaggy dog story about a bunch of amateur astronomers and an [OIII] image of M31.
