Microsoft Azure Frena un Tsunami Digital de 15.7 Tbps
Microsoft Azure mitigó con éxito el ataque de Denegación de Servicio Distribuido (DDoS) más grande jamás registrado en un entorno de nube. El asalto alcanzó un pico sin precedentes de 15.72 Tbps, lanzado por la potente botnet Aisuru, sin causar interrupción alguna en el servicio del cliente afectado (Fuente TechRadar).
Microsoft ha confirmado que su infraestructura de Azure DDoS Protection neutralizó el ataque de denegación de servicio distribuido más masivo reportado en el ecosistema de la nube hasta la fecha. El incidente ocurrió el 24 de octubre de 2025 y se dirigió a un único endpoint de IP pública alojado en Australia.
La magnitud del ataque fue histórica, alcanzando una tasa máxima de 15.72 terabits por segundo (Tbps) y generando 3.64 mil millones de paquetes por segundo (pps). Este volumen masivo de tráfico malicioso tenía como objetivo saturar el ancho de banda y los recursos del servidor del cliente.
El origen del ataque fue rastreado hasta la botnet de IoT (Internet de las Cosas) conocida como Aisuru. Esta botnet, basada en una variante de Turbo Mirai, utilizó más de 500,000 direcciones IP únicas, provenientes principalmente de dispositivos de consumo comprometidos (como routers y cámaras IP) distribuidos globalmente. La capacidad de la botnet de coordinar un tráfico tan distribuido y de alto volumen (principalmente a través de inundaciones UDP) hizo que el ataque fuera especialmente complejo.
La defensa de Azure demostró la robustez de su plataforma cloud. La mitigación fue automática, detectando el ataque en tiempo real y aplicando filtros y contramedidas en el borde de la red de Microsoft. Este proceso de defensa distribuida fue capaz de absorber y limpiar el tráfico malicioso sin requerir intervención humana crítica y, fundamentalmente, sin que el cliente afectado experimentara ninguna disrupción o interrupción en sus servicios. Este suceso subraya la creciente amenaza de las botnets de IoT de última generación y la importancia de contar con servicios de protección DDoS a hiperescala.

Microsoft reports a 15.72 Tbps DDoS attack against Azure, launched from more than 500,000 devices controlled by the Aisuru botnet.
Aisuru, classified as a Turbo Mirai-class IoT botnet, heavily leverages compromised routers, cameras, DVR/NVR devices, and Realtek-based hardware.
It has also been linked to 22.2 Tbps and 11.5 Tbps attacks reported in recent months.
Cloudflare recently began redacting suspected malicious domains after Aisuru-linked traffic distorted DNS popularity rankings.
