I was never into #fantasy, but certain avenues from strange and oblique angles brought me to it and I started with #UrsulaKLeGuin and #AWizardOfEarthSea and 2 things after just 5 chapters:
A. It could easily be a 2020s text
B. The dragon scene is better than anything I’ve seen in #GoT and I am profoundly #aphantasic
LeGuin is glorious, irrespective of genre.
It also reminds me of all the excitement, horror, empathy I felt when I read the book for the first time. Those pictures are beautifully painted, and many of them are pretty similar to what I pictured in my head, while I felt the characters (Ged and his schoolmates) are much younger/cuter than I imagined. Come to think of it, I was almost the same age as those characters when I first read the story, and might have pictured them slightly older than myself. (2/2)
This was such a delightful read. I read the original dozens of times but it is nice to read the story in a different form, which enabled me to encounter it afresh, and made me ask many questions once more about the protagonist’s experiences and relationships with others that once I thought I knew the answers. Book(s) 5(a-d) is out the door in my #booksof2024 list - it's the first four books in Ursula K. #LeGuin's #Earthsea series. And what a brilliant entry this one was. Im slightly surprised it took me so long to discover these but our wonderful librarians in #FrederiksbergLibrary strikes again.

The “monster” reminds me a lot of Ged and the Gebbeth in #AWizardOfEarthsea
I finished a book last night.
When I turned the final page of A Wizard of Earthsea, I cried out, “Wait! That’s the end?”
