@chris

Seems to be no end to people crying "oh but you just don't understand, its all about the industrial carbon price agreement" while just waving away the massive increase in emissions from the new pipeline as the cost of doing business.

The justification of "there is a demand" is no different than me standing out on street selling crystal meth to children. Hey if I don't do it someone else will. Its just business.

At some point you need to take responsibility and expanding fossil fuel supply is ethically wrong. Especially in a country with one of the highest per capita emissions on Earth.

So incredibly angry at Mark Carney, who I thought, with all his UN "climate tzar" cred, would be able to bridge the divide between industry and co2 emissions.

Turns out, he is just an oily vassal for complete climate and carbon capitulation.

Alberta's oil industry is "very happy" acording to Alberta Premier Smith's Chief of Staff.

It's full steam ahead for carbon emissions. They have what they believe is a green light for massive growth.

@FreeAlbertaRob
Just some clarification on this for folks:
1. There is no increase in the carbon price on April 1 under the MOU.
2. Alberta and the Feds will negotiate a new carbon pricing agreement to
replace the existing one by April 1, but the price will not be going up on
April 1
3. The old/current agreement had the carbon price going to $170 by
2030 which everyone agrees is impossible and would greatly harm
industry
4. The new to be negotiated carbon price agreement will scale up to
eventually reach $130 however, we are negotiating the timeline for that
increase and stringency with the Feds with industry at the table
5. Alberta heavy industry is almost unanimous in supporting this
approach - and are very happy about it
In the meantime - there is no more emissions cap or net zero power regs
- so let's get investing and building Alberta!

@Darkphoenix

I think it would be a huge stretch to think that anyone in the UCP would think that was happening in this case. Perhaps though, they felt that there was "too much advertising" (though actually it's just a whole bunch of people boosting shit), which is absolutely laughable from a government who completely saturates everybody's social newsfeed with PAID SPONSORED BOOSTED CONTENT from all their MLAs whenever they want to gaslight and spin to attack Alberta communities, like unions, workers, teachers, nurses, etc., ALL ON TAXPAYER DOLLARS! When they want to spin their billions of dollars in oil corporation tax exemptions, they do it by dropping a leaflet in EVERY SINGLE MAILBOX across the province... again, all paid for by ALBERTA TAXPAYERS! They treat our tax dollars as an unlimited advertising budget, which they put towards things like >$200k/a salaries to "issues managers" like Matt Wolf whose sole job is to go on Social Media and ATTACK AND INSULT ALBERTANS who disagree with the UCP. I'm barely even getting started...

This pundit explores the intuition I had that this pipeline agreement between Carney and Smith has some redeeming features. That is to say, it could potentially bring the carbon budget of producing ALL the oil in the tarsands down to zero.

I fully recognize this will not have any impact on the final end-use of the oil.

Nevertheless, it is important to recognize that most of Canada's emissions come from oil production, not consumption, and this could address that situation.

Personally, I doubt the pipeline will ever be built; I think this was Carney's wrench in the Albertan separatist movement. But, the video is still interesting!

Aha, I finally found it! These were Danielle Smith's exact words...

"I mean, first of all, Thomas Lukaszuk started a petition campaign. He bought 450,000 signatures or so. They're in the process of validating those signatures. So wait to see the outcome of that."

- Danielle Smith, Nov 29th 2025

Fast-Forward to Dec 1, Elections Alberta validates 404,293 signatures from the 293,976 required.

(She was answering a question from Jason Lavigne of the PPC, after her keynote speech, which would have been on Day 2 of the UCP's AGM)

So I guess I have to make 2 small corrections from my previous posts: she said the signatures were "bought", not "paid for", but that actually came from me listening to the video not being able to keep up with her fast-talk.

PS, After listening to the video many times it's still not clear if she said, "He bought 450,000 signatures or so" (as the Closed Captioning believes), or if she said, "He bought, 450,000 signatures were sold", starting one sentence then switching to another. Either way, "he bought" is unmistakable.

And secondly, when I said the video was from one of their own, I guess that wasn't 100% correct. It was from a fellow Separatists, but not specifically UCP. It was a People's Party of Canada member, which is even worse.

'No-fault auto insurance is not working in BC and won't work in Alberta.

In BC under no-fault, rates remain high and the insurance company in charge is cutting off benefits to victims of serious car accidents. And such victims are effectively barred from getting legal counsel to help them when they are cut off. Lump sum compensation is extremely low under the no-fault system which is incorrectly described as "Care". For example, the maximum cap for damage to brain tissue is approximately $3,000. Chronic pain gets $0. An amputation to four fingers to a dominant hand might get a maximum of $17,000.

Private insurance companies are pushing Danielle Smith to get Alberta to copy David Eby's failing BC no-fault model (except with private insurers). No-fault in Alberta will not reduce rates but will significantly disadvantage injured victims who need help. No-fault doesn't work well at all.'

@JEmphatically Truly can't make this stuff up! "Multiple communities in the region are struggling with and supply issues. Greenview itself declared an agricultural disaster due to drought this past summer, and that same day, its council approved adding more land to the purchase agreement being negotiated with O’Leary."
