Close-up of the nose of a white, 4 engined jet airliner on display outside a museum, parked facing to the left.
The plane is almost all white, with blue "Air France" titles on the upper forward fuselage.
A small plaque on the ground gives some information about this exhibit, but only a picture of it in flight is discernible here.
A set of white airstairs is connected to the forward door on the opposite side.
A white building stretches across the background, with a pair of military jet trainer aircraft almost appearing to burst out of the roof on the left of the frame. Pale blue sky completes the image.

Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington DC. I could spend all day here.

Remember the Eastern Airlines bankruptcy? Western Airlines... "the onnnly way to fly"? Southwest Airlines plastic group boarding passes? The Pan American Airlines 747 upper stairs experience?

SR-71 Blackbird.

The SR-71 Blackbird was a high-altitude and high-speed reconnaissance aircraft -- or spy plane -- made by Lockheed and used by the Air Force from the 1960s to the 1990s. On display at the Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy Center, an annex of the Air and Space Museum, in Chantilly, Va., arranged by D.C. Science Writers Association. 13 July 2024

Unmasked indoors! ... if you count enormous, thoroughly air conditioned hangars indoors, anyway. (Thankful for my #Aranet4 though.) #UdvarHazy #Smithsonian #AirAndSpaceMuseum

My book was spotted in the wild!

Having a book come out during a pandemic is super weird because you don't see it anywhere and it just doesn't seem real.

Well, one of our @cosmoquestx community members spotted it at the #airandspacemuseum and snapped me a photo with his kid.

Side view of a twin engined jet airliner taxiing from right to left. The plane is mostly grey, with a dark blue belly, and a thin red stripe running along the body, seperating the 2 colours. There are white "United Airlines" t4itles on the upper forward fuselage, and the registration "N656UA" on the upper rear fuselage, also in white. The engine pods are the same dark blue, while the tail has a series of thin horizontal stripes in dark and mid-blue, with a lette "U", seemingly formed from a twisted ribbon, one side red, the other light blue. In the foreground, a small white car is on the lower left of the frame, driving to the right past the plane's nosewheel. In the background, grass runs off to the horizon, under a flat grey sky.Front view from below and slightly to the left of a single-engined, single-seat jet fighter, parked facing slightly to the right of the camera. The plane is mostly painted a muddy brown, with a light grey belly, and a sharks mouth painted on the lower forward fuselage, behind the black nosecone, which itself has a large probe poking forward, towards the top right corner of the frame. There are large drop tanks suspended below the wings, and a large green light on the nosewheel door. In the background, a large white building stretches across the frame, the bit on the right having large blue hangar doors. Above, the sky is a gorgeous blue.Side view of a single engined, high-winged very light aircraft, with the engine mounted backwards, behind the cockpit. The fuselage is basically little more than the glazed cockpit, with wheels suspended on each side, and a tail boom running from the base of the cockpit, carrying the tail and tail wheel. The tail carries the registration "G-MYIK" in black, while the titles "Twinstar MK III" are under the cockpit windows/doors. In the background, parts of variosu planes - tails, cockpits, wings - can be seen, as well as a white van, all parked in front of a brown domed hangar.Side view of a very large 4 engined jet airliner flying from left to right, with it's main landing gear on the runway but it's nose gear raised off the ground slightly, and flaps fully deployed from behind the wing, suggesting it is just landing. The plane is mostly white, with large blue "Corsair" titles on the upper forward fuselage, between the upper and lower deck cabin windows. the tail has some stylised waves iunwhite and light and dark shades of blue. Grass and tarmac fills the forefround, while in the background, more grass leads up to a black hangar with a white helicopter parked in front on the right, with trees on the left, under a bright but hazy sky.

I (podcast so-host Michael) am not usually big on selfies, but this was an exception.

I told a few people I was going to the Air and Space Museum to see the Enterprise. They would say, "but that museum has the Discovery" (referring to the space shuttle) and I would smile.

Enterprise is in a big glass case, so it's impossible to get rid of reflected lights and shadow people in the background.

The lights are turned on for 5 minutes each hour.
