#Airchecks, slightly tweaked, from the first day of WOR-FM in New York; #rock music hits the #NYC FM airwaves -- this was the forerunner of the #AlbumRock feast/famine (depending on one's point of view) of WNEW/WPLJ/WPIX in the '70s and beyond.
At this point (I'm only about 35-40 minutes in), there's little to differentiate it from #Top40 WABC-AM, aside from the absence of black music (Miss Dionne Warwick singing Bacharach/David doesn't count, and the Ramsey Lewis Trio is filler -- I'm talking, rather, Stax, Motown, and any small R&B labels crossing over into the "white" charts).
One other difference: No static at all.
This is great stuff, for those who celebrate the mighty oaks that grew from this October 1966 acorn; for more info, including the labor strife that followed the #labor strife that delayed this debut, I'm sure there are some old Bob Christgau and Richard Goldstein columns out there on the internets.
