I have a love for trees, especially ones that are twisted or burnt. In this gallery, the larger trees are ancient Bristlecone pines, which are some of the oldest living being on Earth. The smaller ones are various trees and shrubs from across the Eastern Sierra.

My Twisted Trees show is up until 3/24 at Julie’s Coffee & Tea Garden at 1223 Park Street on Alameda, CA. #ThickTrunkTuesday #AlamedaCalifornia #SupportLocalArtists

From Shannon, the new owner of Julie's Coffee & Tea Garden:

"Between the weather and the news, it feels like the world is all doom and gloom.

But it’s not. Not all of it, anyways.

If you’re craving some community tonight, stop by Julie's Coffee & Tea Garden for our art opening. We’ll have light snacks, drink specials, a craft table, and of course our latest art installation and the artist herself Denise Cicuto. Let’s talk art, and how tree and branch and wood tie into bigger themes of resilience, strength, community & more."

A couple of years ago, two kayakers noticed something strange along the #Alameda shoreline: thousands of glittering pieces of metal poking out of the mud.

They reported their observations to our #pollution hotline, leading to a full investigation, a cleanup of more than 12,000 pounds of toxic metal trash & a plan to return this former industrial site to native plants!

After a pair of kayakers discovered thousands of metal coils in the #Alameda shoreline, we investigated--and uncovered a long-forgotten toxic legacy hiding in plain sight.

Now our legal team is compelling the polluters & landowners to clean it up! baykeeper.org/blog/hiding-plai
