The attached picture is not a print of the original copper plate
made by #AlbrechtDürer himself in 1514.

Instead it seems to be a print of a copy plate made by
Jan Wierix (1549 – c. 1620) in 1602.

One observable difference is the empty space between a an i in the text 'Melencolia i'.

"Self-Portrait with Fur-Trimmed Robe," Albrecht Dürer, 1500.

Dürer (1471-1528) was one of the greatest and most innovative artists of the Renaissance. A native of Nuremberg, he became a confidante of a number of Italian artists of the era and introduced some of their elements, such as nudes and classical themes, while mixing it with secularism of German intellectuals.

Here we have one of his self-portraits, painted when he was 28. In German society, that was considered the age when one moved from youth to adulthood; the fact that it was 1500, the turn of a millennium, is not insignificant either. Here he does something not done in Northern European painting of the time...it's a portrait with no background, and with the subject facing the viewer, something normally only done with paintings of Jesus or other religious figures.

The Jesus comparison doesn't stop there...he's obviously making himself look like the savior, and the hand holding the robe is very similar to the usual stance of Christ giving a blessing. Whether this is a work of arrogance or blasphemy is still debated today.

le opere piccole sono entrambe “untitled”, le dimensioni sono 10,5 x 15 cm.
(in passato ho usato, nell’ordine, i titoli “asemic sibyl 0506” e “asemic sibyl 0527”, ma preferisco ora ricorrere a un più anodino “senza titolo”).
sono stampe fotografiche su supporto semirigido in cartoncino.
firmate “MG” sul retro.
si tratta di due elementi che fanno parte di una serie di scritture asemiche legate all’opera di Albrecht Dürer, realizzate nell’autunno del 2008. 

sono tra le ultime stampe fotografiche che mi rimangono di quella sequenza che non ha originali in quanto le grafie erano su lucido, mescolate in modi estremamente variabili e disposte in lacerti assai deperibili. certo, posso sempre rifare delle stampe su un cartoncino simile, partendo dai file, ma non verranno mai così, quella è la prima serie in assoluto, oltretutto la stampa veniva da un service in Inghilterra non più attivo.

le opere leggermente più grandi rappresentano un dittico, sempre “untitled”, e le dimensioni sono 14,5 x 28 cm.
la firma è la “d” minuscola di “differx”, che è il nome che uso per molte opere, soprattutto asemiche, dove non scelgo MG.
si tratta di scritture asemiche a inchiostro su cartoncino, fatte quest’anno, 2025.
come dittico, è consigliabile ma non obbligatorio tenerne le due parti indivise.
