Italy: Call to Send Mail to Alfredo Cospito Against Censorship and Isolation
To break the isolation to which Alfredo Cospito is subjected, in particular through the almost complete blocking of mail, his supporters are calling for a massive letter writing to him. Even if letters and postcards can be blocked by the prison administration, this testifies to the existence of significant support for the anarchist prisoner held under the 41bis solitary confinement regime. They point out that it is useful, even if they are not tracked letters or even if they are simply postcards, with or without indication of the sender. Previously, a campaign to send tracked letters had been organized. They have been blocked and the Court for the Execution of Sentences is due to rule on the case in the coming weeks. Finally, in addition to the question of the mail, on September 14 there will be a hearing about the “judgment of conformity”, in relation to the prison of Bancali (where he is detained): this is a procedure where the judge will rule on the ability of the prison to enforce an authorization granted [to a prisoner], but from which he is not really allowed to benefit. It is about the possibility for Alfredo to access the establishment’s library, something that had been authorized, but without him ever being able to benefit from it. If he decides that Alfredo is right, the judge will appoint another figure, outside the prison administration, to ensure that this authorization is respected.
His supporters propose that each collective or individual who wants to participate in this mobilization commit to sending at least seven postcards to Alfredo, during a given week in order to guarantee the visibility and continuity of the campaign. Based on availability, we will draft a schedule in which each individual/collective will be told a week during which to send cards/letters to Alfredo.

Updates on the Prison Situation of the Anarchist Alfredo Cospito
THE TOTAL BLOCKADE OF CORRESPONDENCE TO THE ANARCHIST COMRADE ALFREDO COSPITO PERSISTS
Update at the beginning of July 2025. In these days there is again news regarding the particularly afflictive situation that the management of the Bancali prison, probably in concert with the Ministry of Justice, is imposing on our anarchist comrade Alfredo Cospito, in particular with regard to correspondence.
We remind you that the censorship of incoming and outgoing mail is a constituent element of the 41 bis regime to which the comrade is subjected. For a long time Alfredo has not received letters, postcards, telegrams and communications of any kind. This despite the fact that many of us are continuing to write to him, even with collective correspondence initiatives such as the one that took place in Foligno on May 31st. In addition, the prison management has long since stopped communicating to the prisoner the notification of censorship, a document against which to appeal to receive the correspondence material seized. The mail simply disappears into thin air.
This behavior is added to a long series of persecutory provisions, aimed at the psychological and political destruction of the comrade: from the denial of access to books already ordered and authorized, to CDs or headphones to listen to music, to the reporting to the bar association for his defenders guilty of having shaken his hand and given him a kiss at the time of the interview – that is, guilty of treating him as a human being.
All this in an already enormously afflictive context such as that of 41 bis which provides for two hours of air a day in groups of up to four people decided by the ministry, one hour of interview per month with a family member separated by glass or alternatively ten minutes of phone call during which the authorized family member must go inside a barracks to call. As well as, as already mentioned, the censorship of correspondence and the impossibility of reading books that concern topics considered sensitive (and the great difficulties in finding any book in general).
We firmly denounce that this persecution is evidently a state revenge for the intransigence and determination with which the 2022-23 hunger strike and the international solidarity mobilization were conducted, putting the spotlight on that gray area that is 41 bis with unprecedented intensity, going to undermine that false celestial aura that surrounds the anti-mafia-anti-terrorism structure.
A persecution that also occurs the day after the sentencing of Undersecretary Delmastro to 8 months for disclosures of official acts, which arose precisely in the scoundrel attempt to smear Alfredo Cospito during the hunger strike.
The misery of these characters in the face of the coherence of an anarchist who has never bowed his head jumps to the eye. On the one hand, those who kneecap a nuclear sorcerer, on the other those who on New Year’s Eve high on cocaine in a moment of rare coherence shoot themselves in the legs.
In the climate of world war that we breathe these days, we reiterate that these episodes must be read as real war policies towards the internal enemy. Great are the challenges that engage revolutionaries in a historical period of this type, but all the more reason we cannot and do not want to leave anyone behind. For whoever forgets the prisoners of the revolutionary struggle forgets the revolutionary struggle itself.
In view of the possible renewal of 41 bis for Alfredo Cospito in May next year, let’s ensure that this too returns to being a battlefield full of contradictions for the State.

[Italian Prisons] Update on Anarchist Comrade Alfredo Cospito
Hello everyone: the updates we are receiving on the situation of comrade Alfredo Cóspito describe a clear worsening of the already abhorrent conditions of isolation 41-bis.
For several months, Alfredo has been facing a progressive limitation of the already limited possibilities of living in the prison regime to which he has been assigned since 2022, including the practically total blocking of correspondence to/from abroad, the impossibility of accessing the internal library (authorization that Alfredo had received from the Directorate), the blocking of books regularly acquired in the bookstore through the prison (as provided for in regime 41-bis) and other goods, such as flour or clothing, of daily use.
All this happens, at the same time as the conviction in the first instance for the disclosure of official secrets of the Undersecretary of Justice Delmastro (precisely because of the matter of the wiretapping, disclosed to Parliament by Donzelli, of the conversations between Alfredo and the other detainees who at that time were part of his “social group”). Other “coincidences” that could be thought to have their weight in this matter are the resignation at the end of last December of the director of the DAP (Directorate of the Penitentiary Administration), Giovanni Russo, who had testified not exactly in favor of Delmastro in the trial against him and, always by chance, the return to the command of section 41-bis of Bancali of the command of the GOM (special militarized police attached to sections 41 bis) that he had been transferred to precisely because of his involvement in the case of the wiretapping.
That is why we relaunch the appeal we disseminated last year about the correspondence addressed to Alfredo, as a first step to regain incisiveness and constancy in the mobilization to get Alfredo out of isolation and continue fighting against life imprisonment and 41-bis.
LET’S KEEP WRITING TO ALFREDO!
It is very important to continue writing to comrade Alfredo Cóspito, still imprisoned in prison 41bis of Bancali (Sassari). The meticulous (and often frankly incomprehensible and contradictory) work of the censorship office, together with the superficiality typical of national prisons and the unreliability of the Italian postal service (an instrument that is increasingly the exclusive prerogative of prisoners’ communications), makes it highly recommended to send correspondence using traceable systems such as registered mail (even without acknowledgement of receipt) or “Posta 1”. The receipt and the tracking code allow you to know the status of the shipment and then carry out the bureaucratic process to try to unblock the correspondence, since the agents do not always reveal the holds and many times the mail simply disappears.
For this reason, we invite all supporters to write and send scans or photos of the receipts (or in any case the traceability codes) to the Cassa Antirep delle Alpi Occidentali, which will collect them and send them to Alfredo’s lawyer to make the necessary resources and recover as many letters as possible.
Solidarity is a concrete act, we will not leave Alfredo in the hands of the executioners of the State: let us flood him with affection even if it is through letters and postcards!
