I found a Passandra beetle at work today.
According to the Atlas of Living Australia, this is the first record of this genus (indeed family) in Central Australia.

A large, well-constructed entrance to an nt nest. It is shaped like a raised crater with the outside rim lined with small curving twigs, while the ottom of the smooth central 'crater' bears a 'V'- shaped entrance to the ant's tunnels. The whole thing is set on red desert soil with surrounding grass tussocks

This #AliceSprings thing is being abysmally handled by local, Territory and Federal govts. Not one of them has yet offered any sense of vision as to cause/prevention strategies, just a punitive approach. We've been doing this for far too long. I can think of a lot of short and long term strategies, but it's not my place to do that. Time to put the problem into the hands of the communities where the issues originate, and give them all the resources they need. #auspol
