The cheapest larger we could find in Lidl for the #slug traps at the #allotment "Excelsior", aka King Arthur's Piss.

Pack of very very cheap larger, called Excelsior, on a wooden table.

Further evidence of obscure goings on at the #allotment after a much more workable day of mostly schlepping and processing (plus sunbathing).

PS fuck you Keef, you filthy warmongering imperialist cunt!

Additional material piled up inside the curved path and atop of the raised bed in the unfinished greenhouse extensionA bed previously filled with self-seeded chard, now 'terminated', has been raised with a deep layer of green leaf heavy arborist waste, with lime mortar heavy soil excavated soil from the semi-sunken greenhouse pit stored in a tonne bag to left of picture riddled over in. Centre of shot behind an origiginal fence post stands a single greyhound cabbage. The bed will eventually be planted out with other brassicas, and extended leftwards once the tonne bag has been moved when light enough to drag. Shaded by the fence, it only gets full sun late afternoon.

I pruned off the lower leaves of my zucchini plants today so that they could be trained to grow vertically. While I was down there I picked off the tiny brown eggs left by squash vine borer moths. Found about 10. #GrowYourOwn #garden #gardening #allotment #zucchini #squash

Our heat index just hit 120°F /49°C and actual temp is 98°F / 37°C and everything is wilting. Almost makes me wish winter was back.

Looking along the side of a grey house with a small greenhouse attached. There is about 2 feet (60cm) of heavy snow covering everything. The sidewalk is partially cleared, but more snow is blowing in. Grey, overcast sky.

At last! Got the third and final planting of sweet corn in the ground this morning just ahead of the heat. Was out at first light and was done by 8 AM with temps already approaching 90°F (32°C) and set to go higher. The only thing left in the greenhouse now are the Okra seedlings and I'll get them in the ground in the next couple of days. For now, I'm staying out of the sun and sipping my ice water. 😀

A black plastic tray with 21 green plastic pots that are 3 inches (8cm) square. Each pot has an Okra seedling growing in it. The plants are about 2 inches tall and just starting to show their true leaves. A small grey metal watering can sits on the bench behind the tray. Bench top is open-grid black plastic set on wooden supports.Three 40 foot long (12 meter) rows of sweetcorn planted in a garden plot surrounded by grassy lawn. Left row was just planted and plants are 3 inches (8cm) tall. Middle row was planted 9 June (2 weeks ago) and plants are 12 inches (30cm) tall. Right row was planted 27 May (4 weeks ago) and plants are 3½ feet tall (1 meter). In total there are just under 500 plants in these three rows.

Picked nearly 2kg of strawberries today, a frog hopped through the plants which I think is probably why the slugs aren't a problem at all. Put the pond into the allotment as one of first jobs there to get the pest control army in place asap. Had the most spawn ever this year, and the most strawberries 🍓🐸🍓

Der kampf get weiter. Eines neues kleines hugelkultur (or something less ungrammatical for the rules bound). Planted with chard and (wrong time of year but we'll see) phacelia, with a little calendula thrown in around the edges.
Plus some evidence of other goings on.
#allotment
PS fuck you Keef, bigly!

A pile of scavenged out of the ground bricks, the new hugelkultur protected with mesh, some battered looking strawberries and the pre-existing raised bed with a 'Hokey-cokey' squash planted in a bottomless planter.Signs of digging in the bed between the greenhouse extension and the curved path of laid screen blocks. A curved chunk of log mostly buried following inside that curve, a couple more chunks left laying.

Harvested the potato. #allotment

Is it me, or is the pink-stemmed chard always the first to bolt?

We're back from the allotment.

We have more redcurrants than we know what to do with.
A huge quantity of blackcurrants.
Vast amounts of mixed tayberries, loganberries and early raspberries.
A lot of cherries.
A couple of tubs of gooseberries
A few strawberries.

So I can safely say that the fruit is doing well this year 😊

I've used some heavy duty plastic sheeting to make a wall and a makeshift door for the shed. The solar panel shed lights are installed (although the panel looks very flimsy).

And did a bit of watering.

It's very breezy, but warm and humid.
We need a sit down and a proper cuppa!

Spent 3 hours digging at the allotment today. Planted kale and broccoli. Did tomato maintenance. Picked raspberries and cucumbers. Felt happy and grateful and at one with the earth.

June, and looking green and flowery in the garden part of the allotment. It's in to the third year now, as I add new planting and surround the fences with trees and climbers. I want it all to be covered in growing stuff and full of bees, except for the terrace which I'd like to keep for growing veg if I ever find the soil for the beds.

It occurred to me that if the fireflies are now emerging, the cucumber beetles, squash beetles, squash bugs, etc. can't be far behind, so I deployed the first wave of my sticky traps with scent lure this morning. Now we'll see... 😀

In black lettering it says: "Squash Vine Borer Moth Trap. Non-toxic, pesticide free."A view of a section of vegetable garden containing squash and cucumber plants, widely spaced. There are six stakes in the ground at even intervals around the plants. Hanging from four of the stakes about knee height are yellow plastic sticky traps containing cucumber beetle attractant.
