managed to install #allstarlink V3 on a #debian 12 VM inside my #windows PC. i can work with #DVSwitch mobile for now to comunicate on the radio. really wanted to have my portable radio be connected in there but i do not have budget to do it. if anyone is kind enough, i'll be glad to accept it. :-) 73

Random question for the day.

If you have a radio connected to a computer so you can use it to operate digital modes, and you configure it as an #AllStarLink node, how do you use that same radio to host a net, WITHOUT requiring either an extra radio or antenna AT THE SAME TIME?

Consider what happens when keying the microphone, the audio is transmitted via RF, but not across the internet.

I watched the waterfall on my SDR when I was testing my AllStarNode, and I realized that both my cheap chinese HT and the crappy chinese HT I used to make the node have spurs all up and down the place. 😬

I don't have any real test equipment to quantify it, but it looks kinda nasty from my unscientific tests.

I have been working on a side project to write an elixir app for managing my #AllStarLink node, and it has been a pretty fun learning experience. Hopefully, I can help contribute to the docs, since it seems like a few of the AMI (asterisk) commands and events for the rpt_app are undocumented.

I was thinking "this is the perfect weekend to upgrade my #AllStarLink node to ASL3", then I remembered that I have a raspberry pi 2... 😞

I have plenty of x86 boxes and a homelab server, but I really wish I could just image a box and throw it on the network, since that's all I have time for.
