Struggling a bit to keep PMA while sorting through all the crap.

Continuing with Thrushes (Turdidae), one of the most common is the American Robin, quite different than the European Robin - a member of the Old World Flycatchers (Muscicapidae).

Robins will eat a range of foods, here eating Deciduous Holly (Possum Haw) berries. Birds will wait for a few freezes before they will eat these berries. Possum Haw is one of the natives we work very hard to preserve.

It's time to slow down and admire some pretty things. Today: an American Robin

A bird. An American Robin, orange beak and breast, grey and black wings and back, and white rump.

Top of the morning to you! Fancy a worm?

The robins are out and vocal this week. They’re hunting red Cotoneaster berries. The berries are not new, but the robins somehow know when they become ready to eat.

A Story in One Frame

This American Robin (Turdus migratorius) was grabbing something last spring—turned out to be a twig. Likely nest-building. They’re considered year-round residents here, but I only seem to spot them in the spring.

"An American Robin (Turdus migratorius) stands alert on a patch of earth strewn with dried leaves and blades of grass, its posture upright and purposeful. The bird’s breast glows with a rich orange-red hue, like embers banked beneath its dark head and slate-gray wings. A crisp white ring encircles its eye, giving it a look of sharp awareness, as if it’s mid-sentence in a conversation only nature can hear.

Its beak is open—bright yellow inside—suggesting a call, a song, or perhaps a moment of feeding. The robin’s feathers are finely detailed, each one etched with texture and tone, catching the ambient light in subtle gradients. The ground beneath it is a tapestry of late-season decay: curled leaves, brittle grass, and the muted palette of winter’s threshold.

There’s no sky in this frame, but the robin itself feels like a terrestrial echo of those fiery sunsets you cherish—its breast a flame, its stance a silhouette against the fading year. The image is signed “© Swede’s Photographs” in the lower corner, a quiet mark of reverent timing." - Microsoft Copilot

The first sign of…winter?

Two American Robins and a starling at a bird bath. The bath has a rock in it and is attached to the far side of a deck rail. We don’t usually see robins this time of year.

This American Robin paused just long enough for a portrait in the thicket. Love the soft light on its orange chest and the natural frame of branches around it.

This American Robin caught me from its… least flattering angle. 😂 Just a little upside-down grooming session in the trees. Nature keeps it real!

An American Robin hangs low on a branch, head tucked and tail up, scratching itself in an awkward upside-down pose. Leaves and branches frame the comical angle.

Lots of juveniles in my neighborhood. Juvenile robins that is. I counted at least 9 just around the pond. More on the fences and trees.

R is for...Robin! 🖤🧡 🖤 For @KarinWanderer 's #ArtABCs alphabet art prompt series. Join us! 'R' lasts until September 8.

Today's play on words occurred while on a neighborhood walk. You will never guess which bird we spotted on that walk.

Three watercolor illustrations. The first is a naturalistic American Robin (Turdus migratorius). The second is labeled "Robe-In" with a mysterious robed figure in American Robin coloring and a beak poking. The third is labeled "Robean" and is a bean-shaped robin with no wings, just two cartoonish feet.
