The busts in the Vatican Museums, Rome, offer a fascinating glimpse into ancient art and history. I was immediately captivated. Each one seemed to whisper stories from long-forgotten times. I was especially impressed by the attention to detail – as if the personalities behind the stone faces could be felt.

Andromeda was sacrificed to the sea monster Cetus to appease the wrath of the gods. Chained to a rock by the sea, she faced a horrible death with courage and resignation. Perseus, the heroic son of Zeus, rescued her and became her husband.

Meaning: Andromeda is a symbol of innocence, beauty and hope. Her story celebrates the triumph of good over evil and love over terror.

#MythologyMonday - my recent talk on #Scottish #mythology available at youtube.com/watch?v=_hbo44wgaf began with the rhyme recorded in 1826 about Lochar Moss having been a wood, then a sea, now a marsh.

"First a wudd, and syne a sea; now a moss, and aye shall be".

I suggest this #story represents eyewitness accounts of landscape change over the last 7000 years or so.
