Summer 2025 Anime I’m Watching — hidden gems & big hits

I’m doing something a little different this time for my seasonal picks. See if you can spot it!

https://vimeo.com/1093187053?share=copy

Here are the other shows I’ll be watching:

  • Dandadan – 2nd season of the hit show, there was the one big issue I had with the first season, how Okarun losing his balls were funny when in reality he got castrated by the pervert turbo granny. Yet people kicked up a fuss about Momo
  • Dr Stone Season 4 2nd cour: I don’t need to say anything on that
  • The Summer Hikaru Died – This looks really interesting, could be the summer horror we’ve been waiting for. However, the BL fangirls are going to hi-jack this, like it’s their wet dream
  • Tougen Anki: Legend of the Cursed Blood – this looks interesting, based on a manga, a candidate for episodic review
  • Reborn as a Vending Machine S2 – hell yeah! enjoyed the first season
  • Clevatess – this looks really interesting and is a candidate for episodic review. I love the opening as well

And there you have it, the shows I’ll be watching. Give or take, heheh

Something been on my mind…

When I first started scribbbleanime, I was interchanging my posts, from an episode review to a first impression. This gave a nice pace for me, just posting once a week. However, lately I decided to do 3 posts a week. This has come at a bit of a price, as I haven’t really kept up with that cadence. In comparison to my peers, who smartly focused on just one aspect either just episodic reviews, whether singular or as a larger post, but shorter thoughts on them. Either way, it frees up their time, allowing them to do other types of posts.

Whilst I strongly suggest not doing too much other types of posts as it loses or dilutes your blog primary focus, the worst thing is having too many categories that ends up bloating your blog. I’m digressing a bit..

Anyway…

In short, I’ve lost sight of that pacing. In trying to keep up with the cadence. I did think about taking a small break from episodic review, or first impressions – I’ve also lost sight of that as well. Instead of just in season, it was meant to do any season, in or out. After thinking long and hard, I came to the conclusion that it is possible to pump out 3 posts a week, if I go back to how I first approached scribbbleanime – interchanging episodic, first impression even mini review on a week by week. This does mean that my episodic reviews will be staggered.

Enough of me blathering

What shows are you watching or thinking of trying out? thrown down in the comments

Spring 2025 Anime I’m Watching — hidden gems & big hits

Spring is in the air, everywhere I don’t want to look around, Spring is in the air…yeah, I’ll stop there. As you guessed it, the winter season has come to an end and so begins the Spring season. I’ll admit I didn’t watch as many shows for the winter season (there are leftovers). Spring has some that had caught my eye. As usual, not all will be mentioned here.

Spring 2025 Picks

So, without further ado, here are the shows for this season:

The Beginning After the End

The beginning after the end looks interesting, it’s based on a web novel, not sure if it is a manhwa. Anyway, on my final post of blue lock season 2, I said I’ll be covering this, after finding out it has 24 episodes and I’m thinking of upping my sports episode review section, so I switched. Will still watch it

Danjo no Yuujou wa Seiritsu Suru? (Iya, Shinai!!)

After skipping out on Makine losing heroines and Honey lemon soda, time to get back on to the romance scene and this one being adapted by J.C Staff, which I enjoyed their adaptation of days with my stepsister, looking forward to this “can boys and girls really remain friends” take. Could be the standout romance show, there could be some competition. And yeah, it’s based on a light novel

Wind Breaker Season 2

Watched first season, so continue on with 2nd

The Catcher in the Ballpark!

The catcher in the ballpark has been picked to be covered, although I could change again to another sports show – all before airing. I do like watching baseball show, with ace of diamond being the biggest name. It says ecchi on AP tags (no ecchi hasn’t put me off), though on MAL and even wiki it says comedy and sports. Will be interesting to watch

  • Uma Musume: Cinderella Grey is the other series being considered

Summer Pockets

Summer pockets is based on a visual novel, so I’m going in complete blind as to how good the VN is. I will say summer pockets has a more, excuse the pun summer vibe than spring for some reason, maybe because VN adaptations come out during the summer. This could be the competition for Danjo

Your Forma

Your Forma (I keep thinking fomo for some reason) is an interesting one. The synopsis of the show is really intriguing. This could seriously be a sleeper hit of the season.

From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman: My Hotshot Disciples Are All Grown Up Now, and They Won’t Leave Me Alone

From the length of title, yup, you’ve guessed it a LN adaptation. Couldn’t help myself in throwing in another novel based series (mainly because I’m getting into LN’s). Could surprise me, this could be a surprise hidden gem of the season, based on the synopsis. Or fall into the LN graveyard like most have

Zatsu Tabi

Zatsu Tabi, I suspect will be the hidden surprise gem of the season. Mainly because it has laid-back camp vibes (will have stiff competition from the author of laid-back camp new series). From the synopsis, going wherever on whim sounds pretty fun, checking out the food and scenery too. So can’t say no to that, plus it’s a wind down from all the other series

There are the odd shows that are left overs from winter:

  • I left my A-ranked party
  • Daily life of a middle-aged shopper

And there you have it, those are my picks, as I wrote above there are shows that caught my attention that aren’t being mentioned, either a first impression post or be posted on my socials – give a follow, I’m active on mastodon. By following on mastodon or threads, you’ll also get my ani midpoint thoughts – any series I’m watching that has hit its mid-point (epi 5-7) I give my thoughts on it, regardless of whether I’ve done a first impression or not

What are you watching? what shows has piqued your interest for this spring, let me know in the comments!

Today’s anime pick was completely left to fate! Since I wasn’t sure what I’d be in the mood for, I let a random number generator decide—and it landed on Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable! ❄️✨

This one has been sitting on my on-hold list since the seasonal release, so it felt like the perfect time to finally watch it.

5 Reasons Why You Should Watch Made in Abyss

Few anime blend beauty and horror as effectively as Made in Abyss. This visually stunning yet emotionally intense series takes viewers on a journey deep into a mysterious chasm filled with wonders, dangers, and heartbreaking truths. This anime is an experience like no other. But is it for you? In this post, there are five compelling reasons why this anime deserves a spot on your watchlist—and one reason it might not be the right fit for everyone.

What is Made in Abyss about?

Made in Abyss is a dark fantasy adventure anime that follows Riko, a young girl who dreams of exploring the Abyss, a vast, multi-layered chasm filled with ancient relics, strange creatures, and deadly secrets. As the daughter of a legendary Delver—one of the brave explorers who risk their lives uncovering its mysteries—Riko longs to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Her journey begins when she discovers Reg, a robotic boy with no memory of his past but possessing incredible abilities. Determined to uncover Reg’s origins and find her mother, rumoured to be waiting at the bottom, the two descend into the Abyss, only to face unimaginable dangers as the environment grows increasingly hostile. Blending stunning visuals with haunting themes, Made in Abyss explores curiosity, survival, sacrifice, and the cost of knowledge, making it a must-watch for fans of deep, thought-provoking anime with real emotional stakes.

5 Reasons to watch Made in Abyss

1. Breathtaking World-Building

Made in Abyss features one of the most imaginative and meticulously crafted fantasy worlds in anime. The Abyss itself is a vast, mysterious chasm filled with unique ecosystems, ancient relics, and hidden dangers. Each layer introduces new creatures, survival challenges, and lore that keeps the audience deeply engaged. Many anime attempt deep world-building, but it stands out due to its organic storytelling. Information about the Abyss isn’t dumped on the viewer but revealed gradually through the protagonist’s journey, making discoveries feel natural and immersive.

2. Emotional Storytelling and Character Growth

The series delivers a powerful emotional journey, tackling themes of curiosity, loss, sacrifice, and the cost of ambition. The bond between Riko and Reg feels genuine, and their experiences shape their personalities in meaningful ways. Some anime rely on action or spectacle, but this series invests in emotional stakes, making the characters’ struggles deeply impactful. The heartbreak and triumphs are felt viscerally, drawing viewers into their personal journeys.

3. Unique and Beautiful Art Style

The contrast between the chibi-like character designs and the detailed, sometimes grotesque environments creates a striking aesthetic. Backgrounds are painted with stunning depth, making the Abyss feel alive and mysterious. Some may argue that the cute designs don’t match the dark tone, but this juxtaposition enhances the horror aspects. The innocence of the art style makes the brutal realities of the Abyss even more shocking, intensifying the emotional weight.

4. Haunting and Memorable Soundtrack

Kevin Penkin’s score is one of the best in modern anime, perfectly capturing the wonder, mystery, and horror of the Abyss. Tracks like “Underground River” and “Tomorrow” evoke both awe and dread, adding emotional layers to every scene. A good soundtrack enhances immersion, and Made in Abyss achieves this masterfully. The music isn’t just background noise; it’s an integral part of the storytelling, making key moments unforgettable.

5. Unflinching Dark Themes and Real Stakes

Unlike many adventure anime that protect main characters from real harm, Made in Abyss does not shy away from brutal consequences. The dangers of the Abyss feel real, and characters suffer physically and emotionally, making their survival all the more compelling. Some might find the darker elements disturbing, but this level of realism adds gravity to the story. Without real danger, the sense of adventure would feel hollow. The show respects its audience’s intelligence by not sugarcoating its themes.

One Reason Not to Watch Made in Abyss:

Intense and Potentially Disturbing Content

Made in Abyss explores extremely dark themes, including body horror, psychological trauma, and child endangerment. Some scenes are deeply unsettling, even for experienced anime fans. While the series is beautifully crafted, not everyone enjoys narratives that push emotional and psychological boundaries. If you prefer lighter, more optimistic storytelling, Made in Abyss may be too heavy. However, for those who can handle it, the emotional payoff is profound.

Will you watch Made in Abyss?

Made in Abyss is available on Netflix and Disney+.

Winter 2025 Anime I’m Watching — hidden gems & big hits

New year means new season, which means new shows!!!

Just going over the winter line-up, there is Dr Stone, which is a staple show for me, so of course I’m looking forward to it.

So, without further ado, here are the picks I’ll be watching (do note I don’t get around to watching all of the shows mentioned here)

Zenshuu

After watching the promo vid, will say if done right MAPPA have a hit on their hands. This will be the “shirobako” with a twist. This being a comedy, romance, and being original, there will be some high expectations. Plus, Band Maid doing the OP for it, they always rock!!

Unnamed Memory Season 2

Engi, better do JUSTICE THIS TIME AROUND! not holding my breath though, if not, fuck outta here Engi!! you can read my first impression and mini review

Übel Blatt

Hell yeah, got me some fantasy. And it does look really good, however, there is one thing I do fear. Ubel will go unnoticed due to the fact it is on prime video. Is it me, or do anime, get squandered there. It is based on a manga, so it will be an interesting watch

Hana wa Saku, Shura no Gotoku (Flower and Asura)

Slice of life isn’t my cup of tea, however, will give this one a try as it looks interesting and slow paced, something to wind down from the other shows. Could be a hidden gem of the season. Little bit of trivia; Tonaki island that this anime is based off, it has a population of just 334 circa 2020

S-Rank Monster no “Behemoth” Dakedo, Neko to Machigawarete Elf Musume no Pet to Shite Kurashitemasu

Well, that is a long ass title, so it’s clearly a light novel adaptation. English title is Beheneko: The Elf-Girl’s Cat is Secretly an S-Ranked Monster! I’m only going to watch this since it has a kitty and I have my own little beheneko named Leo. Don’t have too much hope for it. Could surprise me as a possible gem.

Even Given the Worthless “Appraiser” Class, I’m Actually the Strongest

The Japanese title is too long; Fuguushoku [Kanteishi] ga Jitsu wa Saikyou Datta: Naraku de Kitaeta Saikyou no [Shingan] de Musou Suru, so went with the English one instead. Another light novel adaptation, despite the genres it’s in, it has this “coming-of-age” vibe, that’s just me though. Border line cautious-not much hope on this one. Could also be a hidden gem.

Ameku Takao no Suiri Karte

English title for this is Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective. This has Aimer doing the OP, so mid-high expectation as the pv does look interesting. It reminds me one of my favourites Beautiful Bones Sakura investigations. I’ll definitely give this one a shot. A sleeper hit possibly?

Leftovers from previous season

  • Shangri La Frontier Season 2

And those are my picks for the up-coming winter season. If you include Dr Stone, that’s 8 shows that have been named that I’ll be watching. Of course, I’ll randomly be throwing out shows not named for first impression.

Since I’m curious to see what shows you peeps are watching. Leave a comment or write a blog post pinging others.

Tip: in the golden age of anime blogging (yeah that’s how old I am), people use to dump pings like blogging nominations etc in the about page, if you don’t want pings on your blog posts, either allow comments on your about page or make a page, call it pings for bloggers or something, which specifically allow pings to be dumped there by others, like mines for example scribbble about (also in the navigation menu, it drops down)

Autumn 2024 Anime I’m Watching — hidden gems & big hits

Autumn is fast approaching and with it, so too the end of the summer showing. I’ll admit I didn’t pick many shows from the summer selection, and some from winter showings, sadly I didn’t get around to. I’ll get around to them…eventually, don’t revolt over it!!

As usual taking my lead from Ecargmura

(check out her post to see if any of the shows are on your list)

https://arumjournal.com/2024/09/18/what-will-i-be-watching-for-fall-2024/

Usually, I’ll be all flashy with my post, using images, videos or gifs. This time around I’ll just make a simple list style – it isn’t really worth too much effort doing that when it is a very simple style post, it is kind of nice to take a bit of a break from editing, stylising posts etc.

What will I be watching?

  • Bleach Thousand Year Blood War – the concluding arc, really can’t wait to see one of my favourite shounen series get the closure it wanted all those years ago
  • Shangri-La Frontier Season 2 – this was a sleeper hit when it aired, as an mmo player it really appeals to me, despite it being based on a light novel. I love Sunraku and Emil dynamics, wanted to pull that bunny’s ear off, kind of got a soft spot for her now. Towa rerolled as well, can’t wait to see what new class she picked
  • Dandadan – this looks really interesting and plus it’s right around the spooky season, so I’m definitely watching this
  • Dragon ball Daima – lost the G.O.A.T this year, so to honour Akira will be watching this
  • Kekkon Suru tte, Hontou desu ka – I do enjoy romance shows, this one being an office one, I’m going to see how this one turns out, as Kekkon has a twist to it – they aren’t actually a couple, they do what some ladies do, say a dude friend is their bf to put off any unwanted advances
  • Blue lock Season 2 – Hyped for this, football season already started and can’t wait to get in and see what Isagi and co antics are, just what is that door Ryusuke walked through? Also, I’ll be doing episode review on this

All I’m going to say is, behind the scenes, I’m making steady progress with undead adventurer episode review. Not sure how fast I’ll be, steady as they go.

There are other shows that have caught my attention like Chi.: Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite done by madhouse (I’m thinking it will be a sleeper hit), sadly I still haven’t gotten around to Karasu wa Aruji wo Erabanai, with strongest magician losing my interest, I guess this is the best time to start watching it.

I’m going to try a little experiment here, what autumn shows will you be watching:

Feel free to leave a comment or write up a post on what you’re planning to watch. If writing a post, tag however many bloggers you want. Again, this is only an experiment, it could succeed or fail.

EDIT: The blog you tag, they are free to leave a comment on your post, if they don’t want to write up a blog post of their own. If they do write up a post, then they are free to tag other bloggers should they wish. Hope this clears up the vagueness or confusion above.

Summer 2024 Anime I’m Watching — hidden gems & big hits

Well, looks like this might a regular post of sorts. July is just around the corner and with it, comes new shows.

I’ll be honest, there are some spring shows that I’ve either not finished, put on hold, haven’t gotten around or want to check out.

https://scribbbleanime.wordpress.com/2024/03/27/spring-anime-2024-preview/

Summer tends to be the cool down period, so I’ll be picking up probably less (3-4) from this season. Doesn’t mean I won’t be checking out other shows. Plus, I got the undead adventurer episode review as well. So, I’ll be busy of sorts.

Without further ado, here is the small-ish list

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEBQNB9JANo

Failure Frame: I Became the Strongest and Annihilated Everything with Low-Level Spells

What can I say, I’m a light novel sucker. Plus, the smexy high elf girl has caught my attention. First time too for a goddess being the main villain (I don’t count the goddess stagnate from far away paladin as evil, more like misguided)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR6hV_dVHIc

Wistoria: Wand and Sword

Despite the name, it’s based on a manga. Do love me some fantasy. A non-magical swordsman in a mage academy setting, overcoming prejudices and all that jazz, sounds pretty standard & entertaining stuff

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISJFZ-ZnBys

Days with My Stepsister

I’ve pegged this down a few weeks ago, as one to be a breakout hit for the summer season. Could very well be wrong. Adding some romance to break up the action, fantasy stuff

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJS0wtA0p0Q

The Strongest Magician in the Demon Lord’s Army was a Human

More light novel. Interesting, though I don’t think it will do brilliantly. I thought the same thing about chilling in another world, and I ended up watching that over the new gate, plus Rys is super cute

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFt7WOh3gXs

Narenare -Cheer for You!- (honourable mention)

Done by P.A Works and I have a soft spot for them. An original show about cheerleading, a weird choice, however with PA at the helms, could be an interesting show

Here are my spring leftovers:

  • Whisper me a love song
  • Go, go loser ranger
  • Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again
  • YATAGARASU: The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master
  • The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio (new)
