She took, every year, all of my school books that I had to read to the Institute for the Blind and had them all read onto audio cassette so I could listen to my reading list. And if I hadn't been able to do that, I wouldn't have graduated high school. I can literally say that not only did my mother give me my life, she saved my life.

Was just reminded of #AnneBancroft and had no idea what particular movies I knew her from, just that the name screamed "famous! accomplished!" to me.

Looked her up and ... only two stand out: The Graduate (which I've never actually gotten around to seeing) and Point of No Return (a US remake of Nikita with Bridget Fonda, known in Germany as "Codename: Nina").

Also, her young face was unfamiliar to me, so I definitely only remember her later work.

Weird what sticks with you.

The Girl in Black Stockings. (1957) is part of a three-movie set of steamy crime potboilers featuring legendary blonde bombshell Mamie van Doren although she actually plays only a supporting rôle in this particular movie.

There's a psycho killer on the loose, and plenty of potential psychos among the suspects.

A solid murder mystery with very faint noir tinges.
