Top Loaded Vertical Antenna Simulation: Some Mastodon posts about top loaded, shortened verticals raised enough interest to put together a quick model to see how they behaved compared to standard 1/4 wave verticals. (Still working to understand how to model a spiral-wrapped top-load element…) #HamRadio #Antenna

Post with more info is at: qsl.net/n8dmt/an-sof-top-loade

Great, now I'm also one of the antenna victims. I have to dismantle my VHF & HF antenna under the roof. Fire protection and all that. But the fluorescent tubes can stay. #Hamradio #Antenna #hiddenantenna

Looking for a multi band #HF vertical #antenna (I’m space constrained). Any recommendations?

Should be available in or for shipping to Australia. 😬

@N4JAW Looks like more #HamRadio fun ahead for you! Enjoy having (even) more antenna choices in the field! #Antenna

Why yes that is 9 20' cb antennas. I'm getting ready to finish a project I started a few years ago. It'll be a 9 circle array for directional reception on 160/80/40. #hamradio #antenna

To those who responded to my earlier request for 6m antennas, thank you! I've narrowed it down a bit to a 6m squalo-type, as pictured. However, the site kk5jy.net/6m-halo/ doesn't have exact dimensions. Not a huge deal, but I need two dimensions specifically: The gap between the wires looks to be about 10cm or so, and there is no detail on the matching system at the feedpoint. He says "a loop to add some inductance" but that's about it! #6m #antenna #HamRadio I have emailed, no joy.

I tried to make a 5/8 wave length ground plane antenna for Meshtastic, I had one N-connector for that one left.

82mm for the radials, 205mm (start with 1 cm more and cut later) for the straight radiator and 2 windings around a pencil as a matching coil (the wire was 270mm in total I think).

The NanoVNA showed a SWR about 1.07 at 868.5 MHz and a short walked confirmed a good signal:

Distance: 931m
SNR: 5.50 dB
RSSI: -86 dBm

Later I will go further.

This should be the most top part inside the house.A screenshot of a NanoVNA showing the SWR as yellow parabola in a graph. The frequency starts at 848 MHz and end at 888 MHz. The parabola has its lowest point around 868 MHz.A screenshot of the Meshtasic Android application showing a few noedes. My portable node, the first one in the list, can receive the second node which is at home.

The three other nodes are not in range. The 5/8 wave length ground plane antenna on top of a white table in the living room without any cables attached to it.

It has 4 legs made of copper wire which are shaped like a pyramid. The legs are 82mm each. The top wire, the radiator, is pointing upwards and has a length of about 205mm.

There are a window and some green plants in the background.

Quick & Dirty Sunday DIY Project. L-Match for 27MHz.
Toroid : T80-6 with 23 turns (~2.62mH)
Capacitor : 2pF - 30pF
Network Type : L-Match

Wait for better weather to test. But with 4.4k resistor I can match a VSWR 1:1.1

Free stainless steel garbage cans around here. I am so tempted to make this into a dipole antenna, so I can call it a "trash can antenna".

(If you have a couple of spare Cybertrucks, we could do the same thing, but on lower bands).

Wow! Finished building my first 868 MHz ground plane antenna for Meshtastic!

Still needs SWR measuring with a VNA and maybe shortening a bit, which will be my first time doing that, too.

For a test it already got too late but I will keep you updated about the results. Also I would like to try different antenna designs, it's quite fun!

Inside the Quansheng UV-K5 stock antenna.
Was given an extra, so I pulled it open to see how this particular one was made.
Interesting to see a PCB instead of just a cap.
And it as space for two SMD caps.

Well, I didn't get a chance to hunt any POTA this weekend, BUT I did finally get to put up my PAR Electronics OA-50 antenna! It's been sitting around for far too long, and now that it's getting to be summer, 6 meters should be coming alive a bit, so I'm glad to have gotten it set up.

It is the weekend, so for Radio Fun Time today, I’m building a Twinlead J-Pole #antenna for 2m. From the plans by Craig WB3GCK at qsl.net/wb3gck/jpole.htm - with the addition of some 3D-printed reinforcements and BNC mounting. Will also try to model it - for three #HamChallenge points HC33 HC19 HC43 (already done that last one!) More to follow later…. #HamRadio

Opinions on 6m antennas of the omnidirectional varieties? No rotator available. No "tower" but could possibly mount on a 10-ft. eaves mount that currently holds a vertical. Primarily CW, Digi and SSB in that order. Not much FM at all. Remember, I'm in Iowa, so not exactly a center of 6m activity! #magicband #hamradio #antenna

Normally I strictly refrain from abusing the summit cross as a fixation for my #antenna mast. But this time on #SOTA DM/SX-109 Steinberg (#WWFF DLFF-0056, #POTA DE-0040) the distance to the bench fit so perfectly for my #20m #efhw that I couldn’t resist. #HamRadio #SummitsOnTheAir #ParksOnTheAir #Amateurfunk #qrp #qcxmini #morsecode #hiking #mountains #2m #70cm #fm
