On our first Apple II computer at home, there was a program called "Applevision", that my brother and I just called "Dancing Man". It blew us away then, and fills me with nostalgia now.

It's the second time in a few years that I buy a vintage computer with its CRT monitor, with the monitor described as non-functioning. It's the second time I open the monitor, check the fuse, replace the fuse, and fix it with 5 minutes of work.
Is there an explanation why old Apple monitors would blow fuses and then work perfectly with a new one? I mean usually a blown fuse is an indicator of something else being wrong.
the grand finale of Pillage Village, involving a tiger with an elephant, unsafe towing practices, and an encounter with the ultra-rich
also some of the worst parser abuse I have ever seen

I updated my #vccc2025 entry so that the binary is the bootsector, no need for ProDOS. This loads much faster ! (And also provides you reader a spoiler, you can now guess that my code is less than 512 bytes - which is a very low bar, given that the pattern to reproduce is 18x18=324 bytes)

Just started my Christmas break project. It’s an Apple II rev 0 reproduction kit! Looks like soldering all those IC sockets is going to take some work, and my back is already complaining. But complaining doesn’t get projects done, so it’s back to work!

Pillage Village, the game co-written by a future Origin employee, continues its journey into dystopia as the thief-player performs credit card fraud and cuts off power for the entire area just to steal one item.

All the Adventures goes back to 1982 for a staggeringly obscure Apple II game that isn't on Mobygames, but is co-authored by a designer who worked for Origin and even has a credit on Ultima V.
Includes some history of Origin and their non-Ultima games.

After some wild mathematical hat rendering yesterday, kicked off by @scruss and @paulrickards, I've got John Brooks' ridiculously optimized 10 line Applesoft BASIC program running on the IIe.
(Time-lapse video; the hat takes about 9 minutes to render on the 1MHz IIe.)
The listing can be found here: https://groups.google.com/g/comp.sys.apple2/c/Uc4EmM3xX88

Spreading some 8 bit love to colleagues during the Christmas dinner evening in the office.
@paulrickards @scruss I've seen this on the Apple II as well, ofc, but I can't find the code out there. I wanted to run it on my IIe.
But I can share a little fun I had with ChatGPT and its attempt to rewrite the thing for Applesoft BASIC. This is after several iterations.
I think it got tired of all that crap and said, "BORING - I want to code some demos instead!!!" Who knew GPT was a scene fan? lol

So, my mother in law wants to get me a Christmas present at around $150 or so and I need to tell her what to get. Today.
Thinking probably new tech for vintage systems kind of thing. Hoping for some suggestions.
What I have and don't need in that area: Apple IIgs and IIe have CFFA3000 (drive emu) and ethernet already. Amiga and ST have HxC (= GoTek) already and a rev1 Perceiro on the A1000. NeXTstation has a BlueSCSI already. Mac Plus has ethernet already (vis SCSI).
Maybe something more general? Hmm. Ideas?

Wizard Replay lets you play Wizardry 1-3 and several unauthorized third-party scenarios on your Apple ][, all from the comfort of your ProDOS hard drive.
Version 2.0 adds four more scenarios based on Snafaru's "Proving Grounds 3.1" game engine, upgrades the in-game font, speeds up scenario backup/restore, and fixes a bug when launching from GS/OS.

Thanks to @a2_qkumba for everything.
Health hasn't been amazing since the end of summer, so any of my #retroComputing projects were basically on hold and I really should get back to them - as my cat likes to remind me.
