Foto of the sea at high tide, up to the horizon line roughly in the middle of the picture. The sky in the upper half has some larger clouds wandering through with the sun stabbing here and there through. The colours lean to blue-grey metallic. The sea is lapping at concrete breakwater on the right hand side of the picture, in the distance there seems to be a sandy beach.

The harbour in the ancient town of Arbroath in Angus. There seems to have been a port of some sort here in Pictish times and later the town's abbey was the birthplace of the most important document in Scottish history. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/arb

The lower centre of the frame is occupied by a line of pontoons stretching away from the viewer, at which large yachts are moored on both sides. Then there is a harbour wall and above it are cars parked on a road with a line of mainly three-storey buildings on the road’s far side, made of brick or with pastel finishes. The sky is blue.

Yesterday we had the most amazing kayaking experience I've ever had. Lead by Camy from arbroathclifftours.com/ we paddled north from Arbroath Cliffs to visit a series of sea caves. Despite being a NE loon I had no idea how wonderful they were. Set in Lower ORS) sandstones (U ORS unconformity beautifully exposed!) narrow sea entrances gave access to passages and chambers with fantastic limestone speleothem / flow-stone. Highly, highly recommended! #Arbroath #Scotland #geology #kayaking

Sea cave chamber with brown sandstone ceiling decorated with pale streaks of speleothem flow-stone.4 happy kayakers & 5 kayaks on pebbly beach in grotto in cliffs.

@UndisScot But also: "Much more historically significant was the implication elsewhere in the declaration that in future the King of Scotland could only rule with the approval of the people of Scotland. It was the first time anyone, anywhere, had thought about royalty in this way."

The Declaration of Arbroath. The image shows a replica of the declaration on display in a Perspex box. It is a large single sheet with closely spaced lines of writing at the end furthest from the viewer. At the near end it is cut into multiple vertical strips, each of which has a red or black wax seal on it. AT the bottom of the image is an interpretive panel giving background to the declaration.

This September 1985 gig at Smokeys nightclub in Arbroath was at such a particular moment in time. Three years on from his previous band's demise, Vince Clarke is billed as 'ex Yazoo'. It was actually Erasure playing, but nobody had really heard of them yet and the were second on the bill. £2 tickets!
