#Schubert's #Sonata for #Arpeggione and #Piano -- played on an actual arpeggione (an instrument that's like a bowed guitar).

I looked this up on a whim, and I'm glad I did. The sound is beautifully warm and the music is beautifully wholesome.

The #arpeggione has now even found its way into #jazz & #moderncreative #music: Simon Drappier plays the arpeggione within the band "Quiet Men", which features a few other not-so-usual instruments. The pairing of the arpeggione with the the #bassclarinet (and oriental #zarb for the rhythmic section) is especially soft and #mellow... Warm music for cold winter days! 🦊

Franz #Schubert's "Arpeggione" #sonata wasn't composed for cello or viola & modern piano (as it is usually played), but for the #arpeggione, a short-lived musical instrument (like a bowed guitar), and of course #pianoforte... While modern transcriptions are beautiful, it's still a *different* pleasure to hear an #historicallyaccurate rendition by #cellist N.
