i've only had to actually restore data from cloud targets a couple of times. one was a workstation that got the private apfs container i create on all my modern macs, and the local backup was excruciatingly slow because i was also replacing a disk on the synology i think.

so i used the b2 or wasabi target in #Arq to restore and i was in a hurry so was a little worried about the urgency costing me more than i was making that day or something but it wound up being like $20 and i was happy to pay.

After a couple attempts with different #backup solutions (built-in Windows backup, Acro is True image) I'm back on #arq for my backups to Synology and Storj S3 buckets.

It will freeze my computer sometimes but at least it does a backup when it says it does. 🤷‍♂️ And it's flexible enough to configure backup targets, schedule, include/exclude rules and so on.

I'll take the additional runtime outside of my usage hours to complete a backup every now and then to have a reliable process.

@dhry i am a devoted user of #Arq on macOS and Windows, but i will check that out for consideration for family and stuff. i like the way Arq dedupe works and it can use any object store or filesystem! i use b2 for user data on workstations and wasabi's s3 and aws for redundancy when needed. i actually was really disappointed that win11 only offers the old windows backup util with an aero UI or something; timeMachine is the offered mac backup method, apfs has snapshots that tm and arq can use 'em

i shaved $10 off my s3 bill by thinning some NAS backups a bit. i still need to adjust retention on b2 and wasabi's s3 service though!

i use #Arq and #timemachine for local backups, and then HyperBackup from NAS to object storage. my creative mac does hourly b2 snapshots that take far longer than hourly to determine the content of the backups however.

Switching from #arq to a combination of #synology Hyper Backup and plain #windows11 backup. Arq slows down my computer sooooo much when it starts it becomes unusable - which makes me pause the backup every time.

omfg #Arq backups don't just back up symlinks, they resolve them. Guess what Arq symlinks? If you guessed "the backup destination" you are correct. STOP TRYING TO BACKUP THE NAS ONTO ITSELF WTF

Puh, #OneDrive ist immer noch enttäuschend lahm bei File Uploads. Bisheriges Backup über #Arq via #Dropbox hatte meinen Upload von 5 MB/s ausgenutzt. Bei #OneDrive quält es sich um die 1 MB/s.

I'm not 6 months without Time Machine backups.

I was so happy to start using a Mac back when Time Machine was new, it was amazing. Nowadays, I can restore diddly squat with it, even with an NVME SSD.

#Arq Backup is much more bare bones, but at least I can find file versions.

@Planet_Kai Den Trend kann ich nicht sehen. Als Nutzer sehe ich auch viel Apps, die einfach eingestellt/nicht gepflegt werden, die mit Werbung bis zur Unbenutzbarkeit vollgestopft werden, etc..
Gerade für Apps, die täglich benutze und/oder Apps, die für mich besonders sensitive Informationen verwalten, will ich lieber regelmäßig bezahlen; es muss ja nicht immer eine jährliche Abogebühr sein.
Sehr praktikabel sind für mich sind solche Lizenzen, wie bei #Arq.

В туториалах для фоновых задач в FastAPI обычно предлагают celery и при этом используют синхронный код. Но сегодня в реальной практике такое встречается редко, поэтому в этой статье я покажу, как в фоновых задачах использовать асинхронный код.
