Trias-Building in #Leipzig

This Building was constructed from 2012 to 2014 and planned by the #architects Schulz & Schulz. Despite being a #contemporary structure the #design resembles the #1920s with its dominant cornices and #modernist curves. It’s a stark contrast to the surrounding houses, yet through sticking to the historic lot size the building forms a continuous #streetscape and creates a nice entrance to the #historic city centre.

#civilengineer and #ArtHistorian Wolfgang Hocquel draws a comparison to the #Flatiron #building in #newyork which you can see in the second picture (taken around 1903 and stored in the library of congress).

Exploring the depths of human adversity in Theodor de Bry's "Man schuilt voor een hagelstorm" . Its potent realism vividly portrays harsh 1596 winters. Thoughts?

I’m Caro (she/her), an working for a historical/political educational NGO. is my home.

My passion is , specifically a relatively unknown practice called or singing. Our group meets every Thursday.

Some of my other interests:

Caro, a woman with short hair, is leading a shapenote song: holding the songbook in her right hand, her left hand held up, beating the time of the song. In the foreground and background you can see other shapenote singers sitting in the hollow square, the typical arrangement for a shapenote singing.

searching for historical #paintings that have word banners on them bc I like that sort of thing, and I know there has to be a word for and a million papers on them, but I am missing it.

So please, if you are an #artist, #artgenius, #arthistorian, or a #collector of terms for the very specific things that my limited brain keeps describing wrong to the search engine over and over again (#wordribbon #oilpainting #ancientthoughtballoon #informationbanner #oldoilpaintingmessages ?), help.

I take my spouse to aquatherapy. While we're there she'll ask me about some new #AfricanHistory story that I've picked up in my studies. Today, I told her about the work of an #ArtHistorian who discussed the 12thC trade link between West Africa and France. A random woman in the pool started asking curious questions, so I told her my personal interest is in learning more about international diplomatic relations that Medieval Africans had with European and Asian countries. For context, 1/2

#Introduction!

Hi, I'm a #historian and #arthistorian, focusing on all things #WomenArtists, #womeninhistory, and #genderpolitics today. My first book, A Revolution on Canvas: The Rise of Women Artists in Britain and France, 1760-1830, came out earlier this year with #ThePaulMellonCentre and #YaleUniversityPress. I'm now working on my second book, a broader story of women artists in western history, under contract with #Doubleday (US) and #Viking (UK). /

Hola hello hallo bonjour à tou.te.s 🌊
Repeat #introductions follow, since I’ve newly migrated to Aleph :aleph:
#arthistorian here, sometimes post about art, but mostly about other things, not about my day job (aka Uni).
Recovering political type ❤️‍🩹, tired of the spectacle, and swipe-right swipe-left culture.
Generally pessimistic, given where things appear to be headed.
Multilingual, complicated background, too large carbon footprint.

Round 2 of my #introduction - now with hashtags! I’m an #ArtHistorian and #academic based in #Wagga in #Australia focused on regional Australian perspectives within #Islamic #art. For the #greenbeetlecompany (a collaborative #performance #research group) I make #shadow #puppets inspired by medieval Egyptian precedents (khayal al-zill) and curate exhibitions. My previous work focussed on the #history of the #Tentmakers of #Cairo, and as Sub Dean I coordinate #PhD students in the #Faculty of #Arts and #Education at Charles Sturt #University.

This is the shadow puppet for the character “The Djinn of the Stars” from our concert “The Thief of Stars”. It is a intimidating skeletal figure with large bright yellow eyes and hands resembling a Kris dagger or praying mantis raptorial.

#Introductions and #followfriday I am a #lighting designer for #theatre #dance and #opera, working in Central Florida. I’m also an #ArtHistorian specializing in #impressionism from #PuertoRico. I’m interested in #ChurchHistory and I worship in the #Episcopal church.

Hellooo Mastodon 🌊 here. Will sometimes post about art, but mostly about other things, and never about actual “work” (aka Uni). 🙃 Recovering political type. Tired of the spectacle, and swipe-right swipe-left culture. Generally pessimistic, as it seems to be where the world is headed. Multilingual, complicated background, too-large carbon footprint.
