#Asciidoctor

2025-05-06

Coming from #MkDocs on #ReadTheDocs , I think about migrating our projects user manual to #Asciidoc using #asciidoctor and/or #antora .

But I wonder if there is a service like #readthedocs for #asciidoc based manuals available for #OpenSource or #foss projects.

Important is that those platforms do support @Codeberg (#forgejo aka #gita ) code hosting, instead of Microsoft GitHub.

@cypher2020

kommt drauf an.

@hastur that sucks, I hate $m word with a passion, I changed over to using markdown language for all content now known as #asciidoctor and use templates to create letters that work with $m crap.

Guess my weekend just got "upgraded" to migrating some templates from Asciidoc to Typst. No escaping this one!

Big thanks to whoever recommended Typst a few weeks ago! I usually work with Asciidoctor, but regrettably, "traditional footnotes" are *not* available|implemented, and for some documents, I simply can't use endnotes.

In the end, I needed to upgrade to asciidoctor 2.0.23 🤷‍♂️

$ asciidoctor -v
Asciidoctor 2.0.23 [asciidoctor.org]
Runtime Environment (ruby 3.3.5 (2024-09-03 revision ef084cc8f4) [x86_64-openbsd7.6]) (lc:US-ASCII fs:US-ASCII in:US-ASCII ex:US-ASCII)

From my recent conversation with @trwnh (<mastodon.social/@trwnh/1133777>) I'm getting the impression that if I managed to create a well-integrated #AsciiDoctor-centered blogging system to replace my #Ikiwiki setup I wouldn't be the only one using it. And I don't even mind #Ruby as a programming language. Now if I only had a few extra 24 hours in the day, I could even get to it.

#fedihelp & #fediask

Hello #fedifriends, I've just realized that #asciidoc & #asciidoctor aren't the same thing, so I was using the documentation of asciidoctor and processing the my document with asciidoc… 🤦‍♂️

I don't know who came late, but the choice of the name is very confused, so now I'd like to know what the #fediversians like to use if asciidoc or asciidoctor, or at least you recommend.

The point is some stuff aren't working because perhaps aren't for ascidoc on the other end asciidoctor is very aggressive on the web search, so unless you don't exclude it from the search it completely eclipses the other one.

Thanks! 🙏

I started with VSCodium, which worked reasonably well, until it started crashing due to the diagramming extensions we were trying to use.

In the screenshot you can see me using #NeoVim with the official Ruby-based #Asciidoctor CLI and plugins

I've just tagged and released a new minor release (v2.3) of my #Asciidoctor extension for #LiterateProgramming

github.com/Oblomov/asciidoctor

I was actually in doubt if it should be considered a minor or major release, since there are some rather extensive changes and some new features, such as the possibility to output a graph of the chunk inclusion/dependency tree in #DOT format.

Weirdly funny how these alignment operators in #AsciiDoc were made to look cute. ^.^ <.> >.< ^.> >.^
