This is my great uncle, Giovanni. Born in 1898. Died September 17, 1917 at 19 in WWI. He received the silver medal for bravery. #genealogy has been a hobby for years. I came across this photo of Giovanni in the #italian archives. The military attached photos to the soldiers. I’ve never seen this photo. I see the resemblance of cousins and uncles in Giovanni’s face. As I record names, births, marriages, deaths, I can’t help but feel so many #ancestors who have guided my way. You know how kids tend to adopt the mannerisms of their parents? I wonder how far back that goes? Do I laugh like my great grandmother, because that’s the way my grandma laughed, and my mom copied her? Does the way my dad sings when he’s driving actually originate with a distant uncle two hundred years ago, who sang in the horse-drawn cart because it made his son laugh? I wonder which of my mannerisms came from ancestors and I wonder which of mine will echo in the family long after I’m gone? ❤️ #ascolipiceno
