Students of spectroscopy are usually introduced to the vibrations of molecules in the gas phase.

But in astrochemistry, molecules probably aren't in the gas phase, but adsorbed and frozen onto the surface of ice. Here, David Benoit from Hull and Victoria Clark from UCL show the importance of including this ice in computational calculations to better predict the spectra we might see on planets and asteroids.
