so cool that apc added SAM to #Fujinet PC. it works on my #atari800xl connected via SIO2PC-USB cable. i just need to have a long cable for audio from my PC to be piped out of the TV speakers.
@lefebvre If we don't count that mechanical typewriter I used to pretend coding in BASIC, then it's the #Atari800XL that once appeared beside the big TV that one day I came out of school.
I think even back then I already knew that some life-changing thing just happened.
Sorry, just got nostalgic, but it was THE defining moment of my life.
A very similar model (unfortunately not the original one but bought from a guy similar age as my dad) is now part of my #6502portable.

Tried out if my setup with (a) composite video capture of my #Atari800xl PAL, (b) DroidCam, (c) Webcam, and various audio inputs are working properly in my OBS main Scene. Then played one round of Assembloids XE https://forums.atariage.com/topic/214488-assembloids-xe/ with my son. He won. :D

Got a shipment of cheap knockoff microcontrollers - and because they're cheap knockoffs, they actually have more capability in some aspects than the branded parent.
This one's going to become an #A8PicoCart for my #Atari800xl once the PCBs for it arrive. (In the meantime, I'm going to solder the pins on and 3d print a cartridge case, as the cart's designer was kind enough to include STL files for this)

I've had a soft spot for Artificial Life for a long time. During the last AI Winter in the mid 1990s, I was spurred to get back into education and onto a career in commercial software development by Stephen Levy's book "Artificial Life: The Quest for a New Creation". I loved that Artificial Life researchers borrowed well-understood mechanisms from genetics and implemented them in software to converge iteratively on solutions, in contrast to AI research, which was attempting to build models of categories which were not understood at all (and largely still aren't) - intelligence (whatever that is) and perception.
In subsequent years I wondered why I wasn't hearing any hype about Artificial Life; it turns out practitioners have been quietly getting on with solving problems using the technique. Meanwhile, yet again, AI boosters have blustered their way into the consciousness with another round of overcooked hype.
The Stephen Levy book is still worth a read, if you can find it. (IIRC Danny Hillis and the Connection Machine folks get a mention too.)
(I don't know if any of the genetic algorithm folks turned out to be supporters of eugenics, as many of the current crop of AI boosters seem to be.)

I got my purple Raspberry Pi Pico clone board today and prepped it for A8Picocart goodness. Waiting for the PCBs I ordered from PCBWay to be delivered.
Demo of YAIL (Yet Another Internet Image Loader) for #atari8bit computers. I used OBS to record the video with input from a real #Atari800XL PAL captured via a clone EasyCap USB. Atari 800XL connected via DIY SIO2PC-USB with #FujinetPC running on a #Debian12 desktop. The two terminals on the side are YAIL Server running on Python 3 and Fujinet-PC. Updated video.
Had to set aside my Atari 800XL so I can do some real work first. It's too much fun and it's eating up all my spare time. But I've been making progress with Fujinet-PC on it and my DIY SIO2PC-USB cable. #atari8bit #atari800xl #retrocomputing
