I'm having fun working on a soon-to-be vintage #HP #Pavilion #Athlon-powered desktop machine to be sold on the Irish market.
It had no IDE disks when I got it, only a SATA disk - and it seems the #WindowsVista installer doesn't support installation on SATA disks! #Windows7 prompts me for a driver, but Vista is period-correct for this machine, so I'm popping a 200GB Samsung IDE disk into it.

Сегодня мы снова вдохнём жизнь в одного из свидетелей тех времён, Socket AM2+. Посмотрим, насколько он справится с повседневными задачами и, в отличие от эмо, жив ли он еще. Поехали!

AMD Sempron with Barton core. Full 512KiB 2nd level cache, but reduced FSB to 166MHz (effective 333MHz). Despite being named Sempron this is basically a great substitute for an AMD Athlon XP. Multplicator is 12 (Athlon XP 3000+ has a multiplicator of 13). Fastest Socket A Sempron.

Und wieder ein Rechner gerettet, den meiner Mutter. AMD #Athlon 64 X2 (2007) mit MS Vista (!) läuft nun stabil und recht flott mit #LXLE 32bit- Edition für mindestens noch 3 bis 4 Jahre als Surf- und Büromaschine. LXLE basiert auf #Lubuntu und das wiederum auf #Ubuntu (und das wiederum auf #Debian), stellt aber eine 32bit- Edition bereit.
Lässt sich auch optisch an die Bedürfnisse einer Ex- Vista- Userin anpassen 😜👍

So for the last few months, I've been building a #cyberdeck of the more modern variant, not true to the book version, I'm afraid. It's like almost complete, I have all the parts except for the structural parts, like the front and backplate, but we're done measuring. It's running #Linux in the form of #debian It's specs are a little up in the air, but here at first it's going to have an #athlon 5350 APU and 8GB DDR3 ram, a 4TB NAS HDD for everything(there's a reason for that)

I'm considering replacing my #gateway / #firewall server, which I built in 2009 with an #Athlon II X2, and is running #Ubuntu Server. It's been up 100% of the time since then (barring power outages) with no issues. I suspect that EOL may be near, though. And new hardware is fun. There are some nice dual-NIC mini-PCs that would do. The monitor and keyboard use VGA and PS2 connectors, so they will need to be replaced too.

It seems the old #Gateway desktop I was using as a storage server has finally reached the end of the road. Several capacitors on the motherboard have definitely lost their magic smoke.
Though it served me well, I'm probably not going to bother re-capping it: running an #Athlon-based desktop 24/7 in 2023 just to serve files isn't exactly a great use of electricity, when an ARM or Intel SoC based system could outperform it at a fraction of the wattage.
Can't say it didn't last, though.

Забавная штука, переехал с intel xeon e5 2640v2 на AMD Athlon II 620(без L3 кэша лол)(эх феномчик бы...)
так вот, все железо идентичное, систему переустанавливал на каждую сборку с нуля
и знаешь, когда на амд переходишь, вот реально какое то ощущение, заметно, будто на амд система шустрее работает и лучше откликается и тд, не смотря на то, что в моем случае процессор в разы слабее( сравнение в попугаях ниже)
да еще что интересно
на обе системы не оф методом ставил винду11, на интеле инсталлер дико тормозил пока не подхватил видео драйвера и анимации не проигрывал
в случае с амд, даже без драйверов оно особо не тормозило и все анимашки игрались, странно
Хотелось это скинуть на хреновый биос в материнке, но как я поговорил с людьми, еще пару знакомых говорят такое же замечали, так вот что думаешь?
