This is An Atmospheric Watercolor Landscape Painting in portrait orientation in an A5 sketchbook. Colors used are Daniel Smith Ultramarine Turquoise and Winsor and Newton French Ultramarine Blue. These colors are granulating and have explosive movement, which occurs at the curving horizon line. There are clear bursts of medium value blue and turquoise but also a mixture of the two. There colors are diluted to a light value in the atmosphere with grasses slicing through the medium value. At the horizon line there are dark values and more through out the landmass with some medium and light values and a few bits of unmarked white paper showing through. In the piece the colors are vibrant and create a sense of luminosity.

Cassini’s observations of #Titan’s #atmosphere are exemplary benchmarks for #exoplanet atmospheric studies.

Multiple hydrocarbons can be “retrieved” depending on the selections made ahead of a retrieval but the estimates of parameters such as the abundance of key absorbers like methane can be biased by a factor of three.

This shows that the implicit molecular detections made pre-retrieval to avoid retrieving for hundreds of molecules at a time can bias a large range of parameters.

Molecules may have many lookalikes, so essentially spectral identification tends to yield what scientists are looking for.

Molecules may have many lookalikes. Overview of the absorption cross sections for hydrocarbons taken from PNNL (Sharpe et al. 2004) and included in HITRAN2024 database (Hargreaves et al. 2025). The y-axis provides the logarithm of intensity, with each absorption cross section offset for display purposes. A minimum intensity of 1.0×10−21 cm2 /molecule has been applied for each molecule.

This is a Reflective Atmospheric Watercolor Landscape Painting; 8 x 10 in landscape orientation in a stretched triangle starting on the left. The colors used are DS Mayan Blue Genuine, Cascade Green, Ultramarine Turquoise, and WN Perlyene Green (for the trees). The tree line is masstone of the first three colors and then they are diluted above and below the tree line. The Ultramarine Turquoise and Cascade Green granulate and have good movement bursting in medium values. The evergreen trees are painted in various values of Perlyene Green; taller on the left and getting shorter moving to the right.

This is a Atmospheric Watercolor Landscape Painting in portrait orientation taped off to 8 x10. It has a split landmass with a large patch of white coming through on the upper left side that expand down as it meets the right side at the center. Colors used are Daniel Smith Mayan Blue Genuine, Ultramarine Turquoise, and New Gamboge. Blues in masstone are quite dark and define the landmass's structure. The colors are diluted to medium values in the landmass and mingle occasionally to make some vibrant greens. There are grasses along the ridges of the landmass. At the horizon line there are bursts of medium value turquoise and yellow with a little grittiness from the Mayan Blue. Tall grasses reach into the atmosphere dominated by light value yellow with a hint of light value turquoise.
