Now that I have #Audiobookshelf setup correctly (I think, anyway), I kinda like it. The app seems solid and it works just fine on my Android Auto display.
I'm one of those who are awaiting a release of an #iOS client for #AudioBookShelf
But I can't wait forever..

@talktech I have had a #JellyFin setup for the longest time now, all my video needs are fulfilled by it. Music wise I am looking into #Navidrome and for #Audiobooks I just installed #AudioBookshelf this past week.
It is just amazing how much normal every day life depends on the internet.. it sucks
@grim_elsewhere Cool stuff for #SelfHosting includes #audiobookshelf #syncthing #navidrome #vaultwarden #owntracks #nextcloud #matrix_synapse #prosody and probably more that I can’t recall at the moment 😉
Wife wanted to have her #audiobooks offline as well, so #AudioBookShelf got installed here in the #Homelab !
Easy as 1, 2 and 3. And since it is running on a #Tailscale host she can access it from anywhere her phone has network access.
I'm a huge fan of #Audiobooks and I get most of mine from Audible. Like Netflix and other streaming services, titles unfortunately come and go. I'm a grumpy old man who prefers his titles to stay put, but thanks to #OpenAudible and #AudioBookShelf, I've got my own library set up. Today though, stuff stopped working.
While uploading, it hung forever and failed with 502 Bad Gateway. After tearing my remaining hair for a bit, I realized that it failed after exactly 60 seconds. Turns out this was the read timeout for the reverse proxy. I never saw this timeout before. Turns out the root cause was the Unifi Flex switch under my desk, which had fallen back to 100Mbit instead of 1000Mbit. Uploads were slow as hell, and that triggered the timeout. I'm running proper ethernet wiring throughout the house, so I'm unsure why this happened. #Gremlins in the cables perhaps. Anyhoo, reinserted the RJ45 connector, and it went back to 1000Mbit and uploads were working fine again.
Isn't #IT lovely?
I switched from #calibre-web to #audiobookshelf in the #homelab I wish there was a way to update metadata in batches, but I know it is tricky.
Another lazy Sunday afternoon, time for an upgrade to my selfhosting setup. Since I've become an eager podcast listener this year, it was time to come up with a solution that allows me to play back my favorite pods across devices while keeping positions and 'episode listened' status in sync.
After doing some research only PinePods and AudioBookShelf were left, and I went with the latter to set up my web-based podcast home.
Options I looked at:
https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted?tab=readme-ov-file#media-streaming---audio-streaming
AudioBookShelf:
https://www.audiobookshelf.org/
https://www.audiobookshelf.org/docs
Installation and setup were easy enough: I went with the container setup, running it as a dedicated user on my VPS with rootless podman. I use Caddy as reverse proxy in front for SSL termination (and automated certificate setup):
https://github.com/advplyr/audiobookshelf?tab=readme-ov-file#example-caddyfile---caddy-reverse-proxy
After firing it up for the first time I set up the initial admin account and went on to add my favorite subscriptions. Downloading the first episodes worked nicely. So next up: Listening experience!
Having a web-based solution will allow me to use it from even more devices than before. Selfhosting FTW! What software are you using for podcasts?

@vmstan I have just spent 5 days figuring out how to register a domain, set up #yunohost on #hetzner vps, install #Immich on it, and connect it to hetzner storage box 😅 Most of the time I wasted because I wanted to make Immich accept .heic files - which yunohost explicitly states that they don’t support 😅 I can also confirm that for this use case #Claude bombs the other AI tools out of the water. It already helped me setting up #audiobookshelf (much smoother).

Just looked into #Audiobookshelf as an alternative for self hosting of audio books. Unfortunately, it seems the project is run by an #ancap / #rightlibertarian / #objectivist (AKA #feudalist ). Don't know if I can cope with that. There is just too much negative respect.

I've recently been playing with #selfhosting #audiobookshelf for managing #podcasts funnily enough:) https://www.audiobookshelf.org/
I love it, and find it actually better than a combination of #antennapod and #gpodder sync on #nextcloud
There is only one thing I'm missing.
Is there a way to share podcast links?
I just successfully finished installing and setting up from scratch: #omv7, #nextcloud, #audiobookshelf and the #arrs. It took me about a month of trial and error. This was my first dive into anything like this and I'm feeling pretty snazy about it. Shout out to the helpful people over at #servarr discord!
