For our friends in the #USA from the #FCC: about #AudioDescription On December 1, 2025, the FCC released a Public Notice (PN) reminding broadcast television stations about the audio description requirements adopted in its October 17, 2023 Report and Order. The Report and Order expanded the audio description requirements by phasing them in for an additional 10 designated market areas (DMAs) each year until all DMAs are included.

The PN reminds television broadcasters that the audio description rules will extend to DMAs 111 through 120 on January 1, 2026. Accordingly, the audio description rules will extend to the following DMAs on January 1, 2026:

• Tyler-Longview (Lufkin & Nacogdoches), Texas
• Sioux Falls (Mitchell), South Dakota
• Fargo, North Dakota
• Springfield-Holyoke, Massachusetts
• Lansing, Michigan
• Youngstown, Ohio
• Yakima-Pasco-Richland-Kennewick, Washington
• Traverse City-Cadillac, Michigan
• Eugene, Oregon
• Macon, Georgia

So I’m sitting here and I’m listening to reacher season three, when something occurs to me sometimes I listen to a show and I think that character sounds attractive, etc. etc. but now I can sort of do the same thing with an audio describer. So in addition to the cast of characters that are playing in the show, I do think the audio describer of the person who is describing it is Very attractive. #AudioDescription #Entertainment.

So yeah it's too much to ask that an article about accessibility be accessible, with Alt-text for images. [1] Just like it's too much to ask that a movie about a blind person be audio described for blind people to enjoy it. [2] And some blind people wonder why we need spaces for ourselves? Because sighted people, yes even some disabled sighted people, do not consider us.

So ever since I discovered audio, description, TV and films have become much more enjoyable to me. I even have different shows I watch depending the mood I am in I’m in. Sometimes I want a drama or soap opera type show, which is what I usually go for shows like the West Wing, The Morning Show, The Crown, and a few other ones. If I want action, I will pick from another category of shows. My favorite streaming services are Paramount, HBO, Max, Disney and Netflix and Hulu, and Apple TV. I say this because they seem to update their audio description content on a regular basis. I first discovered audio description back in 1998 on a field trip. I was going to a summer program for the Perkins school for the blind, and they played a movie with audio description on the bus right down. I can remember thinking this is so cool.
