Let’s not get carried away just yet with a circle jerk.

They have a lot of work to do and previous promises to keep first.

Let’s start with paying people enough to above (or if we set the bar real low) level with the line. Then work on an

Then small important steps of doing the right thing..

Such as leaving , condemning the war crimes of Israel, and start fixing the broken system.

There should not be a 15+ year wait for public housing.

A group of protesters stand on a suburban roadside, holding signs aloft in a show of solidarity. The atmosphere is charged with purpose. In the foreground, you can see me wearing a black t-shirt emblazoned with a radiant, circular design and the words “mojgan must stay” standing firmly, one arm raised high to display a large placard. The sign is boldly lettered with hashtags #closethecamps, #evacuatenow, and #bringthemhere, calling for urgent action on refugee and asylum seeker issues. Another protester stands nearby, dressed in a dark jacket, gripping their own sign. Behind them, more demonstrators line the curb, their signs partially visible. The street is bordered by a row of trees and power lines, and the sky is overcast, lending a sombre tone to the scene. The group’s presence outside Peter Dutton’s office in the seat of Dickson underscores their demand for justice and compassion in Australia’s immigration policies.

AU ELECTION: Running against Anthony Albanese in the Australian prime minister’s Sydney district on Saturday is the unlikely figure of a two time Oscar-nominated film director who’s mad as hell and can’t take it anymore. David Bradbury is hardly new…

A landmark security pact to overhaul Australia's navy with American muscle faces growing skepticism, stoked by its eyewatering cost and growing distrust of U.S. President Donald Trump. japantimes.co.jp/news/2025/04/

An otherwise good Laura Tingle column falls into the same trap as most discussion of Australia’s defence posture. It fails to ask (and answer) the most important question: Against whom (or what) are we defending ourselves? Who is our enemy? #auspol #Aukus www.abc.net.au/news/2025-04...

It’s escalating very quickly.

The stories coming from the USA has so many similarities with how fascist regimes came about.

Australia, we need to prepare for the worst to occur within the next 5-years.

Why isn't Albo and Labor proud of the work they did to get Assange released? This was a festering sore for over a decade, and Albo/Penny/Rudd, to their credit, got Assange home.

The world's highest profile political prisoner. Finally released.

Why is Labor not listing this as one of their accomplishments?

This video is totally unrelated to spending $500b+ on submarines we'll never get

In its report "Give Peace a Chance," released today, the APSF examines six key issues at the heart of #peace and #security for all Australians, and calls for a full, transparent, and public review of the #AUKUS submarine agreement with the US and UK.

Other issues include China-Australia relations, nuclear disarmament, AI weapons, and conflict prevention.

So Dutton will need $600 billion (thats $600,000,000,000 ) of tax payers' money to fund his nuclear reactors.

What a frigging waste: same as the $368 billion ($368,000,000,000 ) predicted for the dead duck AUKUS.
Locked into with USA, thanks to that other great LNP leader, Shite Morrison.

Libs really are the party of financial MISmanagement. Can we all remember the decade of corruption we had with LNP in power ???

Can the 47% of undecided Aus voters remember that when they vote?

$968 billion could buy us a LOT of investment in medicine, education, NDIS, green tech transition and now R+D in Aus in all sectors.

Or should we vote Liberal for more dead-duckism ??

Day 22 ⚖️⚔️🇦🇺

“I’m in jail because I stood up to Government who has lost respect for #truth and #law, and the nation of Australia, and sacrifices our nation for their own selfish re-election campaigns”

“Probably only one thing is guaranteed about this election: that in three years time #Australia will be in worse shape that it is now.

That is because our system promotes ‘window-dressing’: pretending to do good things with expensive #PR and #media campaigns, while actually doing the opposite. The party which tells the biggest boldest lies, and makes promises that it has no intention of keeping, will win. Australia will lose. A hung parliament is our only hope for progress.

If you want to understand the concept of #WindowDressing, all you have to do is consider how #Labor came in on a promise of more transparent government, a better deal for #women and #ClimateAction. Its hard not to smile in a black-humoured way when those three things are now considered in light of the last three years.” — #DavidMcBride

I can't wait to post the latest Real Engineering when it goes up on YT (I'm watching on Nebula).

It's all about how to detect and attack submarines. Starts with China's $300m sub detecting "second great wall", goes throuhg P-3 Orion's magnetometer, Mk84's speed and destructiveness, then ends with satellite radar wake analysis.

Yep we're spending $500b on paperweights

John Quiggin recently wrote in The Guardian:

“Breaking with the US will be painful in all sorts of ways. But the break is coming whether we like it or not. Rather than pretending that the return of US democracy is just around the corner, we should welcome the opportunities of becoming a full participant in the most dynamic region in the global economy.”
(Source: theguardian.com/commentisfree/ )

In the closing paragraph quoted above #Quiggin narrows it down to an opportunity and it surely is. But this is not the first time Australia has had the opportunity to show its mettle and chart a foreign policy course which takes it away from the comforting far-away shores of distant allies. From 1942 onwards, Australia showed the world it was punching above its weight and as the war ended and the retreat of empires from our area of interest occurred with alarming rapidity, it had ample opportunities to strike out on its own. Instead, while still managing to punch above its weight Australia did so from behind the shadow of a new, powerful ally. An opportunity missed.

I wager that the #Trump debacle will also be an opportunity missed. We see the writing on the wall . A reluctance to call out the #TrumpAdministration and its disastrous rule by fiat. The persistent bi-partisan support for #AUKUS, fear mongering about hungry bears and pandas lurking about and the ever present #ForeignAffairs ‘ small target syndrome. All of which (and many more indicators) reflect an electorate-wide view that we’re not up to playing in the yard with the big boys/bullies. I don’t know that Australia ever will, it’s just not in its genes.

Australians are such self deprecating souls when it comes to what they can achieve all by themselves in the neighbourhood.
