I've been seeing my GP for near 30 years. He's in his seventies and always been pretty healthy but his long term locum of twenty years retired recently and he's now in his practice by himself.
He's often told me how difficult it is to get insurance and further how complex it has become just to stay in practice, that it is common among peers and colleagues to take early retirement or/and otherwise leave the field.
I don't know what else to say except that the idea he may retire (something he's always said he has no interest in doing) generates a fear in me I've not experienced since I was a small child. Without the support of this man I have zero doubt my life would be very different today, immeasurably worse.
We really should be thinking about how we can ensure GPs feel supported in this country, it never seems to come up when folks campaign for office.

Im a law abiding Aus citizen who pays taxes and happily so. Its provided my children with decent schools and cared for us in hospitals that are amongst the best in the world.
However Im RAGEFUL that my taxes are being frittered away on AUKUS - currently 2x $800,000,000 so far this year. Think of that in terms of additional help for NDIS AgedCare education hospitals....

For those #auspol tragics that may be interested, the latest in Bean (southern ACT) is that David Smith jumped to a 1,000 vote lead around mid-morning and Jessie Price has again pulled back in front. At COB yesterday, Jessie had a 200 vote lead and that has increased today to 906 votes.
I see the #auspol Liberals are casting around for a new leader, one of which has already ruled himself out - perhaps just as well as nobody on the east coast knows who he is.
That leaves:

* A Crumb Maiden
* Yet another old white man
I can’t see a bunch of old white men voting in a crumb maiden as leader … unless the are deliberately going to use her as a punching bag for two years before letting Sideshow Bob step up to lose the next election.
