The last House seat has now been formally declared, and the 2025 federal election is now over.
The #Bradfield recount is complete, with the independent Nicolette Boele defeating the Liberals' Gisele Kapterian by 26 votes.
Formal declaration to take place tomorrow, at which point the federal election will be officially complete (though there is still the possibility of a court challenge).

We're into week 2 of the #Bradfield recount, and Nicolette Boele has taken a 21-vote lead at this stage.
It could, however, easily flip back to Kapterian over the coming days as the recount continues.
📊 A good data visualisation showing why the Greens lost lower house seats in the Australian federal election. In Melbourne it was a combination of an electoral redistribution and an increase in the Labor vote. In the Brisbane seats it was due to preference flows in three-cornered contests

We're finally starting to get a preference count in #Calwell, three weeks after election night.
It's been unclear who the final two would be in this seat, as the two main parties finished with under 50% of the primary vote, and five independents get more than 30% of the vote between them.
Labor's Basem Abdo has taken an early lead over the independent Carly Moore, but with only 2% of the 2CP vote in, it's still too early to call.

I, for one, live for this chaos of RWNJ fools in the LNP experiencing humiliating failure due to their own incompetence and handing a big win to shitposters on AusPol.

Nationals will not re-enter Coalition agreement

Liberal Party leader Susssan Ley and National Party leader David Littleproud have had a hissy-fit over their Coalition relationship, and have decided it's in the best interests of both parties to have a messy break-up.
The Coalition is dead.
RIP LNP.
The 2025 Federal Election is a gift that keeps on giving.

AEC tweets “Bradfield update: The counting of first preference votes & the indicative two-candidate preferred (TCP) count is now finalised. The indicative TCP margin is 40.” #communityIndependent Nicolette Boele is provisional winner by just 40 votes. Further (re-)counting to come. #ausVotes
Lesson for the Liberals: do the opposite of what Peta Credlin says

This article lists fundamental problems with the Liberal Party. Peter Dutton led them to a record defeat — that's largely due to Dutton being a malevolent potato, but his image and message were not helped by the Sky News stooges such as Peta Credlin, who have been parroting the same awful talking-points since the days of Tony Abbott.

Interesting that I've seen two articles recently defending our electoral system.
William Bowe at Crikey:
https://www.crikey.com.au/2025/05/16/australia-preferential-voting-system-friday-fight-no/
Kevin Bonham at The Guardian:

My 2 cents is I'm ok with current system, but I wish people would better understand the lower house system. Particularly that a party winning lot of seats there doesn't necessarily mean the public directly endorsed that party.
