HERE ON THE COAST…
Evening approaches, and black swans, silhouetted by the low, late afternoon light, gather in a projected corner of the bay.

Australia doesn’t have hummingbirds but spinebills are the next best thing. Ravensbourne, Qld.

Kookaburra's are members of the kingfisher genus of birds, they have a spectacular voice, [ also known as the Laughing Kookaburra for that reason], perched on a branch they can be heard cackling away from a distance, they eat anything that moves, lizards, snakes and large insects. They have been known to swoop down and grab a sausage from backyard BBQs.

Easter Rosella posing for me at the Warriparinga Wetlands not as spectacular as the crimson Rosella that is endemic to Southern NSW and Northern Victoria, but still a beautiful bird.

It was fun watching a Crested Tern fishing near Manly NSW over Easter. It repeatedly dived into the water and caught small fish, then without landing, swallowed the fish and shook the water off.

It’s amazing to watch a bird shake itself so vigorously that it is twisted or half upside-down while in flight.

🌏 Eastern yellow robin (Eopsaltria australis)

The eastern yellow robin is a medium-sized Australasian robin with a grey head and back, bright yellow underparts, and a small white throat patch. In flight, a pale bar is visible on its wings. It is found along coastal and sub-coastal eastern Australia, extending inland in some areas, inhabiting diverse habitats from woodlands to rainforests and even gardens. These inquisitive birds are often seen perched low, on tree trunks or branches, from where they pounce on insects and other small creatures. They are generally sedentary, though some altitudinal migration occurs in winter. Their calls include bell-like piping and a repeated "chop chop" sound. Two subspecies are recognised.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)
