The things you don't know about .

"Advocating genocide is a crime that sits under section 80.2D of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth), and it carries up to 7 years imprisonment."

I suspect that a patched #Mastodon, that doesn't collect bios from other nodes and hold them in the local copies of account information, might be adequate for eliminating that defederation problem.

But the thing that's going to get tested is whether OSA(SMMA)2024 compliance that parallels the experimental porn age restrictions in Australia is going to be enough.

Ironically, the almost-law disallows using government IDs.

Two important #AustralianLaw points:

1. There is no hobbyist exemption to the OSA(SMMA)2024. The only exemption is to the POLA2024, and that is for health service providers not for social media providers.

1. Because #Mastodon collects user profile information off other nodes and replicates it locally, Australian sysops might end up with a duty to defederate E+W/S/DE nodes that have their countries's lower privacy consent ages; or use a patched Mastodon.

The #AustralianLaw is twofold, comprising:

1. the almost enacted Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024, which is set to add a Childrens' Online Privacy Code for anyone under the age of 18 (not 12/13/16) to control the retention of personal data by all sysops that have any Australian child users, which is much the same as E+W/S/DE; and

1. the almost enacted Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Bill 2024 which bans under 16s outright.

Second nit:

Even the police in Australia will detain someone (on suspicion of driving whilst under the influence) who prods them to ensure that xe is not hallucinating them, because xe is high. You won't get issued a ticket and waved on your merry way.

Quite surprising that IMDB didn't call that one out, given what IMDB did catch. IMDB people must have a very poor opinion of the NSW police. (-:

Of course, if Australia were to become a republic, it could follow the examples of the more *interesting* countries in this respect. Not everyone who came later took the U.S.A. as a model to follow.

Eire and Germany do not require their members of their legislatures to swear oaths of office at all.

I wonder how much traction a "no more bloody oaths!" movement would get in a republican Australia. (-:
