Galahs are common all over Southern Victoria. They are the only bird I know which is curious enough to sit and watch humans being silly!

This Echidna is doing what Echidnas do - turning over an old log looking for termites. Those spines are sharp - so I wasn't about to turn it over to see if it was male or female!

This is a less common bird you might see in a local park. It’s a Gang Gang cockatoo. They love Banksia flowers and Coast Banksia is very common around the Mornington Peninsula - so look out for them. Sometimes you’ll hear them first - they have a call like a creaky door!

Heard a familiar piping sound from my Cotoneaster tree yesterday. Imagine my surprise when I saw an Eastern Rosella - not the more usual Crimson Rosella. The berries on the tree have set, but are still green - He’d beaten the Sulphur Crested Cockatoos - by too big a margin!

That beach looks really inviting when it’s 39º outside - but it’s at Point Nepean, in Victoria, Australia - and is littered with unexploded shells and bombs - so it’s a no go area. Best stick to Bayside beaches!

You know it’s Spring when the ducks are out with their chicks. This pair of Wood Ducks (Mum in the lead) had 9 chicks originally, but, sadly, the foxes prey on them, so they’re down to the 5 I can see in this shot. The chicks are prone to wandering off, so there may be more.

Another Spring bloomer - a pair of Ear Sundew flowers. These vary from deep pink - like this pair - to almost white. Their sole purpose is to attract insects to the sticky leaves below - where they get eaten. These were at Baluk Willam Reserve in Belgrave, but they’re very common in woodland everywhere.
