Severe damage to the Brentenberge tunnel on the Tauri motorway, in Salisburg, after a truck fire. The driver was rescued and transported to hospital, while there are heavy traffic disruptions with long queues on the A 10 Austrian motorway and the B159 state road.

Not sure how many people remember the Madeline books today, but I recall the first one from when I was a young kid. That, and stuff like Curious George and Babar the Elephant, all with Euro roots, and all popular in the States, at the time.

Madeline was created by Belgian-Austrian-German Ludwig Bemelmans, who wound up in the States after rebelling against harsh German discipline, shades of the "Katzenjammer Kids", perhaps. The Madeline books have always kind of stuck with me due to the rather visceral, raw power of the colorful art. There are even slight touches of disaster, and even horror, across the stories, pretty amazing for childrens’ books, but I suppose somewhat fitting for the Catholic-school motif.

Of course, also worth mentioning is that Madeline was a fierce nonconformist within her conformity, so to speak. In other words, she toed the basic line, but otherwise was a strongly independent thinker. Quite unremarkable today, in the West, but something which was vastly less encouraged when the books came out. This again echoes Bemelmans’ experiences in Germany, and is easily spotted in the two images above.

Upon rewatching #LethalWeapon 3, it occurred to me that the bad guy's compound outside LA is equipped with numerous flagpoles. And each one has a large #Austrian flag flying.
Anyone know why?

When a letter arrived ordering him to appear before a military judge in #Nuremberg, it didn’t specify the charge. It didn’t need to. Wechsler understood immediately. And in his mind, there was only one path left: flee the #American zone and seek refuge behind the #IronCurtain."

This picture is from the exhibition "Gallen-Kallela, Klimt & Wien", which shed light on how Akseli Gallen-Kallela (a very influential Finnish artist) developed his art in interaction with international modernists. In Finnish mainstream art discourse, Finnish art often seems somewhat separate from the wider art world, so this exhibition was very welcome. And I will probably add a few more pictures later :)

After 2 years of active use, I can recommend a-trust.at for Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES) connected to your EU identity. I am a German passport holder. But, unfortunately, all QES Services are so expensive and user-hostile in Germany that I decided to use an #Austrian service for this. The a-trust app and website are well designed and signing PDFs worked always flawlessly. They are also pretty transparent about data use. They are listed as a certified provider by the #BSI [1].

Having documents signed by QES is a great help in many digital processes today, as it provides proof that they were signed at a specific time and have not been modified since.
