As a beginner, most of my bird in flight shots have been hummingbirds, because they tend to make it easier with their hovering, many comings and goings, & so forth but here is one of my first tries of a flying raptor -- got a few chances because birb was being mobbed by Tropical Kingbirds and had to keep circling around...

A photo of a chunky orange bird with an orange crest, virtually no visible beak, a big orange eye, and low hanging feet suggesting the bird will soon land in this thickly covered green tree. This is a male Cock of the Rock who just got chased off by another male. Neither went far, and the displaying at the lek continued for some time. A hummingbird is flying through several stalks of purple verbena clusters. The bird is a long green hummingbird with an iridescent forehead leading to a tall erect crown that looks like a pair of wires. The birb's tail is as long or longer than the bird's body and comes to a point from which two more wires extend from the end. This is the male Wire-crested Thorntail, and you would not believe how many photos you have to take to capture him at an angle that reveals the green fire in his forehead. Photo by Peachfront. A long slim hummingbird is hovering to feed at purple verbena flowers. With his beak buried in a purple flower, he's got open wings to display his iridescent green back and long but skimpy lifted crest. His blue tail is deeply forked and appears as long or longer as the whole rest of the bird, crest included. Each fork of the tail ends in a skinny wire. This is a male Wire-crested Thorntail.
