Actualización de BIOS en Orange Pi 6 Plus

En este artículo vamos a ver el proceso de actualización de BIOS en Orange Pi 6 Plus.

Selección y descarga de la nueva versión

Orange Pi proporciona 3 versiones de BIOS:

Linux, específica para distribuciones basadas en kernel de Linux
Android, específica para la adaptación de Android para esta placa
General, para otras distribuciones

Deberemos descargar, dentro de la carpeta correspondiente, disponible en el Drive de Orange Pi, el conjunto de archivos que nos interesen. En todos los casos, constarán de los directorios EFI y opi_6plus_flash.

Preparación de memoria USB

Necesitaremos una memoria USB con formato FAT32, en cuya raíz copiaremos las dos carpetas anteriormente descargadas. Conectaremos la memoria a la Orange Pi y la encendemos.

Pulsamos [F2] para entrar en el menú de la BIOS.

Seleccionamos la opción Boot Manager.

Seleccionamos UEFI Shell.

Dentro de la shell, iremos a la unidad correspondiente a la memoria USB, que podrá ser FS1, FS2, etc., según el puerto físico donde se haya conectado la memoria.

Nótese que esta shell sigue el estilo MS-DOS. Seguiremos una secuencia de comandos determinada hasta arrancar la aplicación FlashUpdate.efi.

 Shell> fs1:  FS1:\> cd opi_6plus_flash  FS1:\> FlashUpdate.efi -f OPI6PLUS_BIOS_1.4_General.bin

Veremos el proceso de actualización. Una ver que finalice, el sistema se reiniciará.

Finalmente, podremos comprobar que la versión de BIOS se ha actualizado.

The version 11 is just unable to start the #Linux #Kernel properly.
I'm quite sure #Amd will be thrived to know they destroy their platform..

Linux kernel 6.19.6-arch1-1 failing to start due to dumb acpi table in Gigabyte am5 processor motherboard BIOS.

Quand je pense que je gardais une vieille #Ubuntu, installée sur ce #Dell livré avec cette distri, pour ne pas perdre les mises à jour auto... Une fois passé sous #Debian 13 #netinstall #Gnome #Wayland, la mise à jour du #bios s'est faite automatiquement. Pas besoin de réinstaller une Ubuntu. Et pas besoin non plus d'activer les #dépôts #NonFree et #contrib. Vraiment parfaite cette Debian 13 netinstall 😘

during this pause (for my mental health), i would like to ask mastodon help.

Do you know a service that allow (eu server owned only):

- find last version of bios for (Dell, Gygabite).
- selfhost manga and download non licensed one

of course those service must not use US infrastructure.

The sojourn into the 16-bit OS wasn’t perfect though, as we couldn’t find drivers for the 2010-era network card on our newly DOS-ified netbook. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwLIgdRj5bI" target="_blank">Here’s [Inkbox] following the same path</a>, and bringing with it a fix for that networking issue.</p>
<p>The video below is an affectionate look at the OS alongside coding a <em>TRON</em> clone in assembler, and it shows a capable environment within the limitations of the 16-bit mode. The modern laptop here can’t emulate a BIOS as it’s UEFI only, and after trying a UEFI-to-BIOS emulator with limited success, he hits on a different approach. With just enough Linux to support QEMU, he has a lightweight and extremely fast x86 BIOS platform with the advantage of legacy emulation of network cards and the like.</p>
<p>The point of <em>Daily Drivers</em> is wherever possible to use real hardware and not an emulator, as it’s trying to be the machine you’d use day to day. But we can see in a world where a BIOS is no longer a thing it becomes ever more necessary

Thanks for all the replies to this. They were helpful.

On the Dell Optiplex 5040, I did just end up enabling "allow legacy roms" and switching default boot to "legacy" in the Dell BIOS, reinstalling Linux Mint Debian Edition and it just worked.

So Legacy to the rescue!

It sees the m.2 SATA SSD as /dev/sdb and the SATA 3.5" hard drive plugged in with a SATA cable as /dev/sda

I installed grub on /dev/sdb and it still picked it up fine and booted.
