I just got some mail - I mean real mail - with stickers!

I love getting such mails! Thanks a lot for shipping them @mischa@exquisite.social & @OpenBSDAms@bsd.network!

PS: Just have a look at the stamp โค๏ธ

@dexter@bsd.network sounds like we could have something like this in recoded sessions of users who want to speak about it within a dedicated #BSDPub session with reason why people switched.

@oxyhyxo@bsd.cafe thank you :) happy to present it in a #BSDPub call soon

Thanks to @harshad@sharma.io for patching it to make it run on #ARM64. You can also find the bin here:

Thank you very much! I'm really happy to see how everything works out with the BSD Cafe.

We have passionated people and developers that were brought together by the BSD Cafe, sharing the same mindset, having the same ideas - boosting up the community. Especially the #BSD one and also trying to attract #FreeBSD, #OpenBSD, #NetBSD and all the other awesome flavours to beginners. We see people working and developing new things to make beginners life easier, using #BoxyBSD service for this (like @harshad@sharma.io does with #Freeway), syncing in the #BSDCafe Matrix chat and discussing those things in the #BSDPub calls with the community. Providing deep detailed information, like you did yesterday with your blogpost where #Proxmox on #Linux got compared to #bhyve on #FreeBSD (both running on #ZFS, but also #LVM/#EXT4) are the important things to boost the visibility of BSD! Also keeping up and together the community is very important. Without this place, many things would have never happen!

Everyone puts his time and efforts in pushing the community, to make it a little bit better by each day.

So, thank you and everyone here!

It was only the ones from the first link, I didnโ€™t even know the second - thanks for sharing!

I hope to attend the EuroBSDCon24 and to meet you all in reallife. I think with the #BSDPub it already took a good way into this to get in touch with the community in a more personal way :) however, meet & greet in RL is something different and Iโ€™m happily looking forward I to it to gonna happen :)

Good morning #FreeBSD, #NetBSD & #OpenBSD fans!

The #BoxyBSD service is live for quite a while and it got a little bit silent - things just run and work. Are you missing anything?

Do you have any wishes that could help you to boost up your personal knowledge or your opensource project?

We just wrapped up another fascinating session of the #BSDPub meeting. We discussed Mike Karels, the release of FreeBSD 14.1, #Freedive, cats against technology, #Pilldroid, GPL and BSD licenses, some intriguing ideas to attract more users to the BSD world, and a couple of interesting presentations to deliver. Thanks to everyone who participated, and... Stay tuned!

Friends of #BSDCafe and the #Fediverse,

The second presentation from #BSDPub, hosted by @gyptazy, is now available on our BSD Cafe YouTube channel.

Join me as I delve into the infrastructure of BSD Cafe and share techniques on managing its backups. This talk was part of the BSD Pub Meeting held on 23/05/2024.

Friends of #BSDCafe and the #Fediverse, some of the presentations at #BSDPub, hosted by @gyptazy are noteworthy and many of you who couldn't attend might be interested in watching them.

We have therefore decided to create a channel for BSD Cafe (currently on YouTube, but I have other ideas more aligned with the OpenSource spirit of the Fediverse) where the most requested and interesting talks will be published.

The first video is the presentation of Freedive, a mobile-first web interface to run FreeBSD as a personal/public server. Developed and presented by Harshad - @harshad - it allows you to manage FreeBSD server or jail services directly from a mobile deviceโ€”a dream come true for all of us who often find ourselves typing commands on the tiny keyboards of today's smartphones.

I highly recommend everyone to watch Harshad's presentation here: youtu.be/YhKQsPVM8sQ

In the coming days, I will also publish my presentation on the basic infrastructure of BSD Cafe and the management of its backups.

Stay tuned!

Today, one big part of our #BSDPub call was about #Freedive (made by @harshad@sharma.io) which is about integrating a gui management interface for #FreeBSD beginners for further system management. I also covered the insights, build instructions and a binary pkg in a blog post.

A recording of this part will also be provided soon!

Nothing beats the joy of receiving real mail from far away (Bologna/Italy) and from the community! The #BSD community and especially the #BSDCafe (https://bsd.cafe) are always special and feel like home!

Today's #BSDPub meeting was very interesting (even I had to vamp while driving on the highway). Next week, we will focus on backup solutions and Iโ€™m already very happy to hear about your setups!

Thanks for joining and sharing all your insights! But there's one more thing - should the call keep time boxed of 60 minutes or open end? I think today we would have needed more time but I can clearly understand when the call takes too long in the evening and people start to drop. People can of course stay in the room even after the official meeting.

@michel@social.recondo.com.br Have fun :) Maybe you can provide us some insights in the next #BSDPub meeting :)

#ezjail is unfortunately more or less deprecated and not actively maintained anymore. The last release was in 2015. It still works more or less (at least for me and my use cases) but after our last #BSDPub I thought it could not be wrong to have a look at other ones. #cbsd is not brand new but it got my attention by some posts today here in my Fediverse circle. So far, it looks very promising - you can have an interactive look at it on the projects website (https://github.com/run-bhyve/cbsd) or just give it a try on a test vm.

QuickStart:
pkg install cbsd
service cbsdd start
env workdir="/usr/jails" /usr/local/cbsd/sudoexec/initenv
cbsd jconstruct-tui
cbsd jstart 1

Use the tui to get familiar and afterwards you may use it without (if needed).
