1st day of a short #backpacking trip in Great Basin National Park. The route followed old mining road and passed through the ruins of a briefly thriving community. From there, I stopped by the lake, climbed to the top of the nearby peak, then dropped to a second lake for the night.

Former boarding house near Johnson Lake in Great Basin National Park, the Johnson Lake Historic Mining District.

A log cabin covered in corrugated iron and including log surrounded yard sits in front of a domed mountain. Trees, conifers that are not very dense, surround the cabin and occupy a few clumps on the mountain.Johnson Lake in Great Basin National Park.

A shallow and green lake with logs on the far side occupies the middle. Conifers obscure the closer edge of the lake. Another line of them cover the edge of the portion of valley that contains the lake. They are found in clumps on the slopes around the flat of the glacial valley. In the distance, a sharper valley extends toward a large basin, part of the Great Basin.Eagle Peak viewed from near the top of Pyramid Peak in Great Basin National Park.

A rocky high ground in the foreground descends to a tree covered ridge with meadow areas, then climbs again to a white rock peak. Behind it, small hills are seen among a distant flat. More mountains are almost invisible in the distance along the horizon under a blue sky.Baker Lake in Great Basin National Park.

A shadowed lake below high cliffs is very low, exposing scattered logs and light colored rocks. Around the natural edge of the lake, conifers stand. They can be found in clumps on some of the scree below the high cliffs too.
