#Barnsley has launched free bus travel for children and young people aged 5 to 18 with the new Barnsley MiCard. Valid from 7am to 9pm, Monday to Sunday, travel must start or end in Barnsley and remain within South Yorkshire. The scheme, one of the first of its kind in England, supports independence, life skills, and access to education, leisure, and opportunity. Around 11,400 young people now hold the MiCard, with applications still open online or by post. Funded by £5 million from Barnsley Council and up to £1 million from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, the two-year pilot supports the Great Childhoods Ambition. All local bus operators are participating. Mayor Oliver Coppard and Cllr Sir Steve Houghton hailed the scheme as a vital step for young people, with hopes to expand it across South #Yorkshire. More details and applications are available via the Travel South Yorkshire website.
