Wow, that was a great #KidicalMass in #Barry #Barrybados.

Organised by the amazing AB, we were a great gang of people on wheels. It wasn’t far, but the energy was great. We moved from #BarryIsland to the #Knap, with plenty of stops to re-group.

I was there as a helper, there were a good team of us, and people in cars were patient this time.

We only had a deluge at the start, but dried off in a cafe at the Knap at the end - the new car parking charges didn’t bother us.

We’re beside the sea. To the middle distance over on the right there is a sheltered bay. To the left, leading away is a wide promenade, with prominent puddles. The subject of the photo is the large number of people, mostly dressed sensibly, some with high viz,some in Halloween kit, but all with a bike or scooter. We’re on a wide tarmac promenade. A group of people on bikes is riding away from the camera. We seem to be part of the group. To the left, a grey pebble beach and a sliver of grey sea. To the right, we glimpse another body of water, lower than the promenade. That’s an ornamental lake. The sky is blue with low white fluffy clouds on the horizon, which is formed by a rise in the land. Building, houses in the far distance to the right, trees to the far distance left. The large white flag on one of the bikes reads “kidical mass Barry”

I was late finishing at work yesterday, was hungry, fancied some #sglodion, so went in search. There’s a BK near-ish, but I thought “no! Support the independent chip shops” so nipped over to #BarryIsland. Boofy’s was closed, and the q at Finnegans was out the door, so I came back to the mainland and lucked out at Island Chips on Broad Street…and the phot illustrates the results. https://strava.app.link/GhZbZHMxqSb

Beyond that is a brown stone platform edge, for we are at a #railway station. Beyond that, a gap which contains two parallels railway tracks (not visible), then beyond that, the far platform, containing a facade of red brick (c1980), dark blue panels to approx 1metre height, surmounted by windows containing a closed cafe. Above those is a corrugated polymer roof. We’re looking up through that. It’s opaque, but the sun has cast a shadow on it.
The station sign in the distance on the far platform is too blurred to read, but declares this to be Y Barri - Barry

Last working day of the year, so I took Titch (my folding bike) on the train to give my legs a rest. We got off a stop early and had a tour of #BarryIsland on the way to work. Mostly deserted, just the way I like it. Everyday #BikeTooter. #Cymru

Looking over a flat rocky beach to a small island, which, as it is low tide, is joined to the beach by a natural causeway. The island slopes gently up from the see on both sides, but dips slightly in the the middle and is covered in green bushes. In the distance, to the left of the first island, another, low, long, flat island can be seen. The sky is grey and filled with thick white and grey clouds, the colour being reflected in a choppy sea

Looking to Nell's Point on Barry Island from Hayes Point on Sully Bay:

A choppy grey sea breaks in small waves a flat rocky beach, much of it covered in black mussels. in the middle distance a rocky promontory, covered in trees sticks out into the bay and behind that the breakwater of Barry docks can be seen with a small white lighthouse at it's end. Further back is Barry Island, topped with houses and at it's far left, the white shape of the Seawatch Centre on Nell's point can just be seen. The sky is grey and filled with thick cloud.

The Treat at the end of the walk:

A pub table, in the foreground is a plate which contains a long soft white bread roll, cut in half and filled with sliced beef steak, and a brown bowl containing thinly cut chips.

Well here’s a sort of entry for the #ShittyCameraChallenge a classic Brownie 127 photo of my dad at Barry Island beach taken by me in the 1960s sometime… More recent photos though sadly not on the 127 to follow!
