More good #Newton news, I can back up to a (virtual) MacOS machine, and #BasiliskII already mounts the host filesystem into itself, so this is way easier import and export using #virtualBox and Windows 3.11

Wonder what the last web browser for this OS was....

Can someone help me troubleshoot #BasiliskII running on #Debian12?

A friend of mine set up a #MacOS7 environment for me to use on my Ubuntu computer a few years ago, and it still works fine, but when I try to open the same environment on my Debian computer Basilisk II seems to just quit.

No idea how to get started troubleshooting this.

Has anyone had luck getting #MacVenture games to run on Linux *outside* of the #BasiliskII Mac Classic emulator?

It is 100% a port/socket binding condition in Basilisk II. I cross-strapped the OS7 and OS8 instances on both devices to use alternating UDP ports 6066 and 6067. Now both instances on both machines can connect to the other with AppleTalk.

A screenshot of two instances of BasiliskII running Mac OS 8.0 in the top-left and Mac OS 7.5.3 in the bottom-right. Each have their respective Control Panel windows open and desktop icons indicating active AppleTalk file sharing sessions.

Another caveat:

While I can run multiple instances of Basilisk II on my MacBook Air or Mac Mini computers, only the first-launched instance can use AppleTalk on the specific UDP tunnel port. The other instance must try to claim that port for a socket and seeing it is already in use, the host OS just ignores the request.

I was able to get an instance of System 7 running in Basilisk 2 on both my Macbook Air and Mac Mini to connect to each other using AppleTalk!

1) Basilisk 2 preferences must have udptunnel set to true
and udpport set to the same port on all Basilisk 2 instances.
2) The Control Panel Sharing Setup must have File Sharing configured and started.
3) Guest user should have Allow guests to connect checked.

Thanks @oevl, you inspired me with your post last night.

Happy beginning of Marchintosh!

There are several windows of different applications running including: Sticky Notes, More About this Macintosh, Pcalc, AOL Messenger, and a large clock. Several disk icons are visible on the desktop, underneath all of the application windows.

Wrote about how I enhanced my Macintosh 512Ke with USB4VC, BlueSCSI, PicoRC, RGB2HDMI, FloppyEMU and Basilisk II to do modern Internet things like browse Gopher.

Enhanced Macintosh 512Ke booting from a System 6 ROM

Basilisk II seems to be heavily-CPU based, which I guess makes sense for an emulation system. I guess I was thinking it would use more memory, but that begs the question "for what?”

Interesting to see the RPi Zero 2 drop about 15 degrees Celsius within minutes of the emulator being turned off.

We are getting there... i created a 1.44M image with dd, then formatted in #BasiliskII and copied a System 6.0.7 folder.
Unfortunately, it requires System 7. But it starts to boot!

I started thinking about the vintage web and web rings while looking through some old apps and then trying to get a browser to run under Mac OS 7.5.5 in Basilisk II just to verify that my old website works with older browsers.

(Spoiler Alert!) It’s kinda broken. I switched from inline attributes for styling to using inline CSS, so some pages had backgrounds and no gaudy blue outlines, and some didn’t. Then I got sucked into installing a period appropriate QuickTime. Pro started in 3.0 and the key I purchased apparently doesn’t work on it. 🙃 Had to try a couple of keys listed elsewhere, but it’s nice being able to watch the videos I have on my website again.

Well, here I am adding bgcolor and border attributes to HTML tags like a My First Webpage coder. 🥰

Simple overclocking of the Raspberry Pi Zero W, even just a little bit, seems to have a profound effect on Basilisk II. The PowerFrax application can render a 300x300 fractal in a few minutes rather than almost 2 hours.

Overclock settings in /boot/config.txt:
arm_freq=1085
gpu_freq=530
over_voltage=2
core_freq=515
sdram_freq=533
over_voltage_sdram=1

It's possible I could overclock a bit more...
