Just tried to open the classic open source videogame Battle for Wesnoth on the phone. The resolution was so ridiculous I could not read aaaany word. Did anyone used it on the phone? #battleforwesnoth
@crlf @nytpu Possibly, it was Battle for Wesnoth (https://www.wesnoth.org/)? :drgn_think_confused: It has some addon, where you play for a dragon, who should defeat an evil knight to return kidnapped hatchlings. It was "Flight to Freedom" (or "Brawe Wings" dunno remember).
UPD: Uh no, it was "Flight to Freedom" and it has a completely different plot :drgn_woozy: :

A new release of one of the @wesnoth campaigns I maintain, "Dawn of Thunder" version 0.2.5, is now available on the BfW 1.18 add-on server! This update is mostly just for compatibility with the latest upstream stable release of Wesnoth. Here's the corresponding GitHub release:

Video Games Freedom
Small achievement: Managed to configure the Steam controller for #BattleForWesnoth, so now I can play it on the big screen. 🎮 (The tricky part was getting the controller's mouse emulation work under Wayland, but then it's great for mouse+keyboard games!) BfW is still one of the greatest games of all time, if you ask me, and it simply never gets old. 🧝♂️ #Gaming

I don’t feel like I managed to make my drakes quite as intimidating as the ones in the #BattleForWesnoth video game, but I was still glad to give Drake Gliders and Clashers some air time. You also got to hear Tric spout lore about Flamehearts. As for other units from the video game, this #ttrpg combat let us see the pinnacle of saurian fighting prowess, the Flanker, as well as a return of our old friend, the Mudcrawler.

GM Note for Echoes of Invasion:
Mainline orcs in the #BattleForWesnoth video game don’t have magic. For Gugdish, I again took inspiration from the expanded units in the UMC campaign A War of Life and Death, which includes the Orcish Conjurer. Some of the other orc units that inspired me were the Orcish Assassin and the Orcish Warlord. We’ll see other units from the video game as this arc continues, including Goblin Pillagers, a Wraith, and a new unit for our characters, the Nightgaunt.

GM Note for Echoes of Invasion:
The #BattleForWesnoth video game has a take on orcs and goblins that I hadn’t seen before. They’re the same species, as are half-orcs. The different designators arise from the physical capabilities of individuals. Orcs are the strongest, half-orcs are less muscular, and goblins are considered runts. This then sets their social standing. This doesn’t come up much in any of the mainline campaigns, but I used it to inform how I portrayed my #ttrpg NPCs.

#ArtAdventCalendar for today is the map I drew for the tabletop roleplaying game campaign I ran inspired by the Battle for Wesnoth video game. The only original content is the area around Estbryn Forest on the edge of the Estmark Hills. I made that up so that the players could be young adventures starting from an obscure place, which would explain why they knew so little about Wesnoth itself.
GM Note 1 for Echoes of Invasion:
There are no trains in the #BattleForWesnoth video game, at least not any of the campaigns I’ve played. So why do these dwarves have a train? Well, while contemplating this rematch with the dwarves of Untdunben, I rolled on the Mythic GM Emulator’s event meaning tables for inspiration and got Develop and Vehicle. Mining tracks are well-established in the video game, so I decided they weren’t all for carts—some were for trains.

Nie lada gratka czeka miłośników turowych strategii. W ramach kolejnych naszych rozgrywek nauczymy się grać w Battle For Wesnoth (albo Bitwę o Wesnoth, jeśli wolicie polską nazwę). Plan zakłada niewielką potyczkę drużynową (w zależności od ilości osób) oraz objaśnienie podstaw działania dwóch frakcji dobrych dla nowych graczy: Lojalistów i Buntowników. Chociaż dobrze będzie przed rozgrywką przejść samouczek, grę wyjaśnimy w trakcie, a tury będą nieograniczone czasowo.

This arc, we used a number of #BattleForWesnoth video game units to help flesh out our story. Tric imagined Breda as an Elvish Captain. Quemilya’s magic theory discussion was influenced by the Sorceress write-up, as Tric’s training is by the one for the Elvish Lord. And some of the rapid-seeming changes in the society of our short-lived saurian allies came from the descriptions and artwork of such units as Skirmisher, Ambusher, and Soothsayer.

Where I've had the energy to do anything at all, I've been playing the #BattleForWesnoth included campaigns for the first time, my first experience with the game.
Appreciating the writing in these so far. For one thing, racism seems to be commonplace in the setting, but it's not narratively framed as justified or even a neutral thing. Instead, it's constantly leading to misunderstandings and tragedy.
