I’ve been working on a 60s/70s hippie style battle vest recently. Most of the patches and pins are all true to era. I’m trying to figure out what I want to do in the middle, and I still have lots of things I want to add. Just trying to find the right pieces for sale at the right price. So far I’m pleased with it! The vest is still vintage, but more 90s/80s due to the size I need.

The part of the tab that was connected to the can sticks out in the back and kinda makes the second row (and future hypothetical rows) of tabs stick out more at the bottom... Just more obvious scale mail :blobcat:

The corner of a denim jacket, on the bottom edge next to the buttons. Right above the waistband, there's a row of cat food can tabs sewn into the denim. They're in a pattern of 2 silver-colored can tabs, 1 gold-colored can tab. I've also started the next row, with the first gold tab on top of two silver tabs from the first row. In the first row, the part of the tabs where all human puts our finger to open the can will be covered by the other side of the tabs in the second row.
Future rows of can tabs are sketched out on the jacket in sharpie above the current rows. Each row is a big rectangle with the word "tab" in it.

It'll be made out of denim and bits of food related aluminum (cat food can tabs and bottle caps)... so it won't be very *effective* armor. But it is essentially scale mail!

I hope a tool library near me has a jewelry saw or a dremel, because the bottle caps will be hard to scale unless I flatten the top half. For the bottom half, the rough texture is the point so I might leave it be or even just give it some variation

A blue denim sleeve with a patch of cat food can tabs sewn into it. Cat food can tabs are like soda can tabs, but there's a much bigger hole on one end and much more metal in the other. The tabs are sewn onto the sleeve in a basic scale pattern. The less wide, dense side of the tabs is on the bottom edge that sticks out.
