Dear #fedi #fediverse,

I know that more people here mean more content and more relationships and more everything, I know that this is vital for maintaining a platform. But I also know that a platform, especially social media, is nothing without its scope and nature.

I love the fedi because it's full of smart people, people that have an IQ big enough to comprehend this whole servers thing and federation. I wouldn't want for fediverse to be full of dumb people, that now populate twitter, or tiktok. I like it that i can have a genuine conversation, without billionaires, without people "community noting" me when I'm actually right, and more importantly, that i can speak freely about my interests.

Fediverse as a whole is diverse, with everything you want and, of course, not for everyone. But for those who Fediverse is for, those are people that are already here. Smart, nice people. Diverse and non-discriminatory people. People you can have real interactions with.

I wouldn't want fedi to become the same as other social media and I'm scared that if more people that don't really understand the core of the fedi join, this place will become like the others.

I love Fediverse, I love you all, I don't want you to change.

• Do not tell people how to #vote. It is rude, you do not have that authority, and you are making enemies for your cause.

• Do not denigrate the political opinions of others.

• Do encourage people to vote. The average #voter does fairly well. That is why autocrats attack the franchise.

I’m just back from a trip to California where I was lucky enough to have the often rumoured random car rental mega-upgrade happen to me.

My LHR->SFO flight was 2 hrs late. The rental company (Hertz) couldn’t accept my #ChaseUK card as verification because it has no numbers printed on it, and it was now 11pm and I had a 20 mile drive to do.

I kept calm, stayed polite, and worked through options with them, which I think was appreciated, because instead of a “Compact” car, I got this… #BeNice
