Helen Merrill is the debut studio album by vocalist Helen Merrill, on which she is accompanied by trumpeter Clifford Brown in arrangements by Quincy Jones. Brown had recorded a similar album with Sarah Vaughan only a few days previously, on December 16 and 18, 1954.

The AllMusic review by Scott Yanow stated: "The music is essentially straight-ahead bop, yet the seven standards ... are uplifted by the presence of Merrill (in top form) and Brown." Jazz Giant is a studio album by jazz pianist Bud Powell, released on Norgran in 1950, featuring two sessions that Powell recorded for Norman Granz in 1949 and 1950.

The first session, with Ray Brown and Max Roach, took place on February 23, 1949, after Powell obtained a temporary release from Creedmoor State Hospital where he was receiving psychiatric treatment,[3] and represents his second recording date as leader (the first being his Roost session in 1947 – see Bud Powell Trio). Der Blue Note jazz der 50er und 60er Jahre des 20. Jh. prägt bis heute unser Bild von Jazz. hektische Musik für Nerds oder das Gegenteil: absolute Easy Listening-Fahrstuhlmusik. Beides gibt es natürlich, aber eigentlich war Jazz die Musik der Straße, der Bordelle und Honkytonks.

Blue Note Records, 1939 von zwei deutschen Emigranten in New York gegründet, wurde damit berühmt und legendär, dass sie die Jam-Sessions nach den eigentlichen Abendshows aufnahmen. Oft sehr experimentelle Töne, nicht selten unter dem Einfluss von Drogen und Alkohol. Diese fibrige Musik wurde nicht nur weltweit bekannt, sondern gilt für viele als der Klischee-Jazz.

Was man sicher sagen kann, ist, dass es 1962 die Welt erobert hatte.

This is a collection of extremely rare California recordings featuring Charles Mingus in a postwar small band format (the bands go under a variety of names, including Baron Mingus and His Octet, Baron Mingus and His Rhythm, Baron Mingus and His Symphonic Airs, Charles Mingus Sextet) and a couple tracks in a big band setting (as Baron Mingus and His 22 Piece Bebop Band), featuring some of Stan Kenton's players. There is nothing too startling or innovative here, but the pieces are solid and upbeat, and Mingus' fine bass playing is on display on cuts like "Shuffle Bass Boogie," "Mingus Fingers," and "These Foolish Things," while his scat singing is featured on "Boppin' in Boston." A young Miles Davis is rumored to be on several of these tracks...
