#BeeVideo

A bit of bee video from a couple of days ago. They're finding some bright orange/yellow pollen and probably still working the goldenrod.

The bees all eventually moved into the top box but I think there was some drift too and the bottom box got more active. The box has comb on all frames except 2 that are bare foundation so not much has to be done and I think there are enough bees they'll be ok before winter. There's lots of honey and pollen in the hive and they are finding pollen somewhere I've noticed since they were moved in plus I have a pollen patty in there.

A short video of the bait hive activity around mid-afternoon.

35 minutes of video in 40 seconds showing the bees that didn't leave going back into the hive. maybe.

I was in the garden and heard a buzz. The East hive swarmed around 11:30, gathered high up in a cypress tree, and at 13:05 were buzzing again and flew off to the southwest. Probably a box of bees.

The bees in the nuc hives on this cool and windy Sunday morning that was 57F or 14C when the video was recorded. I think the plan is to move the green bees into a 10 frame deep, and give the white nuc a top box since they started with fewer bees. The queens have only been laying for a week to ten days (hopefully) so a couple of weeks will reveal the new activity.

Some video of the hive entrances. Sunny and 63F/17C. That West hive is less active but those bees have a different schedule than the other two. Seems like a lot less Carniolan types in that hive.

The bees today. Very busy, pollen coming in, and the West hive having a traffic jam caused by a bunch of drones on the landing board.

I haven't seen any activity at the bait hive and the bees at the other empty hives seem to be off target and taking a break.

Bees bringing in the pollen on Saturday morning. I estimate between 100-120 bees per minute with pollen. That could be over 1.5 grams of pollen per minute or 500 grams in 6 hours. More than a pound of pollen and they work hours than that. That's based on them only carrying 15mg of pollen but I read they can carry 30mg.

A short bee video after lots of beekeeping things today. Not a lot of pollen but it only got up to 53F/12C today and no sun until late afternoon.

Busy bees, April 4, 2025. Pollen going in and I see some drones at the Center hive. The hybrid willows are blooming and full of bees, and the Norway Maples, sarvis berries, peaches, and plum will be blooming in a few days probably.

One closeup of the winter bees. They look pretty good!

A closeup photo of bees inside a Langstroth bee hive. This is the top of the frames of the lower deep box. There are hundreds of bees shown. They are old bees that have been in the hive since last year. It is a mix of dark-ish and light colored bees.

I put the oxalic acid pads in the hives today. Each hive gets 50 grams of oxalic acid that is mixed with 50 grams of glycerin. The glycerin is heated to LESS than 170F/76C before the oxalic acid is mixed in and then the Swedish dishcloths are cut in half and soaked in the mixture.

This was the Center hive that has the most bees.

No stings, no drama, no surprises.

A short video of the bees bringing in the pollen today. Lots and lots of pollen.

Just when I think I'm going to get something done I see a good video making opportunity. 4 seconds of 240fps bees slowed down.

Bees in the bird feeder. They're probably collecting cracked corn dust which isn't great.
